Heard back and we agreed on a price. It wasn't a zillion dollars, but considering it's going to be made into a 1 X 5 inch banner across the logo, I'm not complaining. We are in the legal/contract stuff now. Pretty straight forward.

So does that mean you arent going to give us a ballpark figure? This information would be nice if someone were to search for an answer in the future.

My question is did you quote first or did they. Did you meet half way? That's what I'm mostly curious in. |

I'm figuring further details are pending until the contract's actually signed. |

The first email said in essence "we generally pay $500 for this type of work... blah blah." I responded with a partial quote from an earlier post talking about volume and distribution, and asked how many bottles would actually have my image on it. Before she replied, I told her I thought the $500.00 seemed a bit low, but perhaps I was naive. She responded almost immediately with a blurb about stock photo costs and how much they would pay for them and yes, they do pay substantially more for someone who might be well known but upped it to $800.00 without hesitation,so I agreed. My image is going to be a tiny sliver 1 inch X 5 inches as a banner on over a million bottles. I am satisfied with the outcome. You will see my red gerbera daisy petals with tiny water droplets on the 100 oz concentrated laundry detergent called "Water Blossom." I'm going to get some coupons for free products too. She has already recommended me to several more of her clients. We had an immediate rapport, so we shall see.
The check is on the way. WOO HOO
Thanks again everyone, for your words of wisdom and encouragement. |

Out of curiosity, did they tell you how they stumbled across your work? |

Oh sure. They found me on flickr. I guess they did a search using tags and found mine since it has water and flower and the new product line is "Water Blossom." I'm pretty proud of myself. LOL

Congrats Judy! I think you made out fairly well. The image of mine, Puppy Love, that Avanti Press bought the exclusive rights to for 5 years was only $2500. They found the image right here on DPC. At the end of 5 years if they choose to use it longer, the original contract will get renewed at the same price. Some felt I sold out for too low, but I figured it this way...no one else was making me any offers and that was $2500 I didn't have before.
I am not sure if that detergent brand is sold in Alaska, but I sure will be keeping my eye out for your gerbera |

That's awesome Judy and it's not just because this reminded me that I need to buy some fabric softener. :P

I do not use that brand, but you know I am going out there to buy a bottle just to say this is someone I know from DPC and this is her shot!!!
Well done |

It will be available after January 2009. I think it's funny that a photo I took is going to be on laundry detergent. LOL |
