So yesterday, the sun was out in all its might. Two of my friends and I decided to meet up for some team shooting at my place. This is the first time we did such a thing. So we had two Canons (450D+Canon28-105 and XTi+Tamron28-75mm) and a Nikon (D70+Nikkor70-300).

We shot pictures of seagulls, ducks, landscapes, telezoom (airplanes etc.)... most of them in JPG right out of the body..and in full auto mode.

Anyways, making the long story short, when we started comparing the images afterwards, the 'visual appeal' score of the results pointed to the D70 as the winner. And this was based not just on one image... but about a 100 shots each from the three cameras.

(By visual appeal I meant better contrast, sharpness, vibrant colors, and low noise in shadow regions.)

It did come out as a surprise initially, that a 4 years old model is giving better real life results than two more recent ones. Add to this that my friend with the D70 had not used his camera in months.. and all of us are amateurs.

My take on this was that our D70 friend is simply a better photographer:-)

The aftermath: I have been comparing image quality results between a Nikon D90 and a Canon 450FXSi on the internet this morning.

Any thoughts?
