Surprised nobody noticed that Bear_Music and I used the same shot for this month's Free Study challenge ... well, not the same shot exactly, but same location, same time, same clouds, same day. Happened when he was out exploring Northern California last month. We had just met at the Golden Gate Bridge overlook, then hopped in his car and drove up Conzelman Road to one of the old artillery battery's at Fort Baker. I set up below the battery overlooking the Gate, and Robert set up about 20 feet below me.

Here are the two entries, along with a snapshot of Bear makin his magic and me just after I took my picture.

Surprised mine finished so much higher than Robert's ... I thought his processing was much more refined than mine (though I was of course going for that DPC-pop that the voters seem to like).

Hope you're starting to feel a little bit better, Bear.

Dennis, thanks for sharing the story. I like both shots very much. For me the bridge itself is just a small piece of the composition. I really like the booding sky and the city skyline in the background

bumpity bump for anyone who missed it.

feel free to compare/contrast/comment on the different approaches we took. I'd be interested to hear some feedback, good or bad, and more importantly I'm thinkin' Robert might enjoy it a bit too once he's able to get back on line ...

I think yours scored higher because of the socked in skyline behind the bridge. It is more prominent in your version.

Thanks for the sharing: what a rare privilege to be able to compare the two images through different photographers' eyes. EE's image is about the width and the expanse of the sky and the city scape...that amazing cityscape skyline and bridge and world "around" him, while Bear's is about the height: the height of the vantage point and the beach far below, the height of the bridge and the sky rising above...Bear drawn to the water again and Dennis to what the land and sky are doing.

Interesting that you both went for a Black and White in a landscape...

Actually, the original, unprocessed image is virtually without color. This is extreme backlighting on a misty/rainy early morning. Here it is; these were shot RAW+JPG so I could use them from my sister's machine; this JPG has only been resized. The lack of color is exactly as the camera saw it.
