The '08 US election is over, the post-election autopsy is mind-numbing, and meanwhile there are very serious events happening around the world. This is such a unique & diverse community that I'm really interested in hearing DPCers' take on important global current events and perhaps with a healthy debate where appropriate (hence the start in rant).

One big story lately, photography related too, is what has become of Kim Jong Il and what will become of N. Korea if he is no longer in power? I'm sure many have now seen the latest faked photo of Kim Jong Il released by North Korea? South Korea believes the north is now being run by the head of the secret police (who is also Mr. Kim's brother in law), Chang Sung Taek. This guy sounds a little more frightening than Kim Jong Il to me so far. In the linked article above he is described as having âfewer enemies [than other senior cadres] because when he purges people, they are not just sent away from Pyongyang, they are killed.â I hope the guy's not too crazy, but it all makes me just slightly nervous for my in-laws who are an hour's drive from the DMZ.

Then there's the global financial problem. That should make some headlines next week when there will be a summit in Washington to discuss reordering the global financial system which could include strengthening the role of the IMF in dealing with economic crisis. I don't know about the rest of you around the world, but here in Michigan I've had a front row seat to see how the financial crisis has impacted people (& my property value :P).

These are just a couple of the many stories that are piquing my interest lately & I wonder how other DPCers view what's going on in the world and/or what other stories you think are important. Please contribute to help my post-US election recovery ;)
