Ive been checking papers and whatnot for like photography contests and submissions, but havent seen anything. Besides online, where are good places to look for such things?

You could look for a local camera club, which could have a presence on the web or else ask a local camera shot if they know of any. Local attractions like wildlife refuges, botanical gardens etc could be running their own contests. Zoos often run photography contests also. I dont know if you live in the US or not, but state fairs often have photography contests too.
