My son needs a reprint of a letter to an editor written by a relative of ours a long time ago for a school project.

It's in the NY Times archive, online. It's free to print subscribers or online subscribers, but it would cost me $3.95, which to me seems steep for a letter to the editor written by someone we know.

So I was wondering if there are any subscribers out there who could send us the text of the letter (and any response, if there is one)?

You need your zip code and your subscription number to get it. The link is here:

//select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F30717FE3D5F12728DDDAC0A94D9415B898BF1D3&scp=1&sq=janet%20herring%20evita&st=cse

The title is: "THEATER MAILBAG; Arguing the Merits Of 'Evita' Yeats and the Irish Source of Inspiration"

We're interested in the letter from Janet Herring and any related response in the mailbag.

Thanks in advance, if anyone can help.

bump--hopefully, someone who just finished reading their copy of the NY Times will read this... (see my original post) - Thanks!

Sorry, my (free) online subscription wants to charge me too. A couple of thoughts though -- if the article were a photographic print, would you be trying to track down a "free" copy? Also, many libraries subscribe to the NY Times -- one in your area might have some archival (microfiche?) copies.

Sounds like an interesting project! Good luck!

Thanks. It's just a school project. And while $3.95 isn't a big deal if we needed an article, this is just a letter to the editor--seems a bit steep for that. If I can't find it, I'll probably consider spending the $14.95 for a month of online NYT access instead--at least I'd be getting real content, and unlimited archive access. Not that I need it, but I least I can search around and find some interesting things.
