Made it to Rome and back - did not get my pocket picked and didn't have to wait in line anywhere. I can highly recommend November as a good time to visit Rome. Crowds are small, weather is delightful. The place I stayed was awesome - kind of like a Bed and Breakfast in a big old building, about two blocks from St Peter's and the Vatican Museum - info available upon request. The proprietress was great - brought us breakfast every morning and provided directions for travel, places to eat, etc. Easy access to the metro, the bus, the tram. And as someone else mentioned, it's very easy to get around in Rome. Can darn near walk where you need to go, but the busses are easy to figure out and use. Good food, but lots of tourist trap type places. Look for those not actively out trying to get you to come in. :-)

And though it's considered bad taste, they WILL serve you a cappucino after 11 AM if you're a tourist.

Pictures, at least some of them, are posted in my portfolio. I spent four days in Rome (not NEARLY enough time, by the way) with perfect weather and still couldn't come up with a shot worth a 6.0 here. Ah well, they're still decent tourist snapshots in my opinion. :-)

Views welcome, comments optional but appreciated!

Is it just cappuccino after 11 AM? My experience in Italy has been that they drink coffee all day (usually espresso with 1 or 2 sugars). I honestly never had cappuccino while I was there and just drank the espresso, Italian style. A nice Caffe Coretto for after dinner too.

You're expected to have espresso all day - cappucino for breakfast, then espresso for the rest of the day. And it's darn good espresso, too.

Yes, it is very good. I haven't found anything even close since I came back to the states. I just started off with the espresso every morning.

Thanks for sharing, I very much enjoyed looking at your photos.

Still crossing fingers that the Trevi fountain legend is true and will have me return there one day.
I sure would like to see it all again.

Did you make it into the catacombs, too?

Nope, didn't make it to the catacombs. Didn't make it to a lot of places, unfortunately. Simply way too many things to see and places to visit and not enough time to take them all in. I'd love to go back, but there are other places I'd like to visit first. Maybe someday!
