Most importantly, does it matter?
On DPchallenge, your voters tend to be quite literal in terms of voting and commenting, so you have to ask yourself: "Does this scream Affluence?"
If it does to you in ever possible way - then I salute you, because then you are not shooting to please the crowd.
However, if you want to up your score a little - research a little.
If it's a II or a III challenge, go back and see what ribboned in the previous one, so that you can fill your head with what is generally liked and disliked.
Then. once youve brooded over a particular challenge - take your shot and once you've edited it, ask yourself these three golden questions.
1) Does this meet the challenge (can the photo convey the challenge without trying to force it with the title)
2) Is this the very best possible angle/lighting/editing that you've done to make it as awesome as possible.
3) Will there be similar entries - for instance, for a "Money" entry you're bound to spot hundreds of coin/note entries. How is yours different?
Apart from that - photography is very much like writing. The more you do it, the better you get. Don't be too hard on yourself. Even the greats had to start somewhere. |
