I got so bored from not having a camera (sold my 40D a month ago to fund a 5DmII pre-order) that I borrowed a friend's camera and went into the city to take some pics. I wasn't really planning on submitting anything but thought, "what the heck!". It's been 18 months since I entered a challenge...can't believe it's been that long!

Tough challenge. I (mistakenly) went with something leaning toward cliche to try to woo the voters a little bit, knowing how previous attempts at something more sincere have bombed. Anyway...

This is a public service announcement. Some of you are under the impression that your scores are "bombing," "tanking," or otherwise performing dismally. Please read the following example of a truly poor score:

Yes!
It has always seemed strange to me to see "The voters love me" (Score is 5.8)
folowed by a diferent poster a few posts later saying "The voters hate me" (Score is 5.8)

I have to agree with this. I thought my pic was DPC friendly, and might get me a PB. Not so. It's hovering around 5.8x now. Was at 6.0x. So it's dropping.

Ditto that for me as well!
When you think that you're pleasing the DPC crowd and feel that it's a great shot, that's when you're displeasing yourself because we've likely gone against what it is that we really like. I'm not doing that anymore. I'm entering what I like and to heck with the scores. It's at the least, getting me to use my camera! :) |

| I'm with you there. Trying to please the DPC crowd, whoever they may be, is a waste of time and effort, and ends up stunting your own creativity completely! I give up, if I ever post again it will be what I want, and I refuse to look at scores again. There's way too many talented, successful and pro photographers on this site with no ribbons at all, let alone scores over the sixes! |
