I really hope that all those that voted down because they did not believe the photo was taken through the lens, but was photo shopped have fun wiping the egg of there faces.
This has really shown up that voters do not spend the time to really see the photo in front of them and are to eager to be negative about what they are viewing.
As the photographer said, vote for the photo and the quality and does it meet the challenge, and let the SC do their work.
I agree about the background.
I am threading this for the voting & comments this is not my entry.
Edited for spelling.

It came 18th out of 110 entries, so what if a few folk thought it wasn't legal.

What are you talking about? This was a top 20 shot:-)
This one got a 6 from me. And no I didnt vote it down because of the technique. The high score was 6.9903 and this one fetched 5.8. Pretty good IMO looking at the lack of aesthetic appeal. I think all the marks it got were for a great imagination.. technically it could be better.
I really liked this shot.. but sorry I dont like it when people complain about down voting. Not everyone has to like every shot.. and this one got its apt position if you ask me.. I would be jumping up and down if it was my shot.
ETA: And if it makes any difference, this one was positioned 5th from top according to my voting. I just dont like it when people take DPC to the podium as if it were a 'just' and 'honest' political system that promised that everyone will win a ribbon in turn... one by one. It isnt. Just chill!!

The score doesn't really seem to reflect the shot being dinged because people thought it wasn't legal. Granted, there are a lot of comments questioning it... Still a 5.8 seems OK to me with the backdrop and lighting issues that the photographer acknowledges in his notes. |

I didn't vote on this photo as I didn't find time
I see no reason at all for any whinging in regards to this photo, the voting or the position it came. One person didn't vote because they were unsure of the legality (I think that is better than voting it down).
A large number of people voted this photo up due to originallity. It got 7 10s, and 9 1s. When you do something like this, you are always going to get a mix of responses, and therefore a spread of votes, both high and low. I think the high votes artifically inflated this photo more than any low ones deflated the score.
I would not have voted this photo high. When i originally looked through it, something seemed wrong. When it was posted here, I looked at the photo before the description. The Cat is very obviously a cut out. The smooth lines all around it, and the total flatness of it. The bqackground has been mentioned to death, the light adds to the fake look, and the lack of water in the bowl as well. The photo in no way appeals to me.
So BrianR, no egg on my face. I don't like the image, and have seen a similar effect accomplished so much better in other places. |

The point is that it clearly states "IMPORTANT: If you think a photo has been illegally altered, vote as if the entry is valid, and allow the Site Council to pursue the issue."
I suspect with the number of low votes (1-3) that anyone who thought it was not legal voted it down .... |

All in all ... Place: 18 out of 110 ... Avg (all users): 5.8557 is about what I think it deserves considering all aspects of the photo in a photo contest IMO.
It was, indeed, a good concept but admittedly hurried and not well lit or backdropped.
It does stand as a point of reminder to the few that may have voted it down because of being "obviously photoshopped" or for not believing it was possible in a Basic Editing challenge to ALWAYS vote as if the image is legal and if you WISH ... report it to the SC as a possible rules violation.

to the OP...I see what you are saying here but should you really be going to bat like this over someone elses image?
I didn't even notice it at first and ended up looking back and forth to realize that you weren't the photog...unless you have two accounts which I strongly doubt...edit to add...and only JUST now saw where you say this isn't your image...might want to start with that.
Doing so without more clarification to it not being your image makes the photographer look like a whiner when they may be happy about their placement.

I liked it and voted it a 6. Great idea thinking "inside out of the box".

My favourite photos are the ones that get people talking.. Good or bad. I think I succeeded with this one! :)
My frustration came out in my comments because during voting, I would see my score getting higher, higher, then all of a sudden I would get a 'You cheated' type of comment, and my score would plummet. I saw this happen multiple times during voting.
Overall, I'm not unhappy with the score and placement. I acknowledge that there are technical problems with the shot (Obviously the background, and I also thought that the clean lines of the cutouts didn't sell the illusion very well).
I think it's pretty obvious that a handful of voters were voting it low because they thought it was illegal. The photo that placed before me got 1 one, 2 twos and 5 threes. The photo that placed after me got 0 ones, 3 twos and 7 threes.
This photo got 9 ones, 5 twos and 9 threes.
I'm here to learn. From the amount of comments and discussion this has generated, I've learned an awful lot from this image. I'd take this over a higher score any day, so I'm satisfied.

The fact that you had to keep going back to understand thread, say's to me you did not take in what you read in the first instance.
This is what I am trying to convey that voter are doing when voting on a photo, not taking in the photo they are looking at and only see the negative and errors, I agree this does help photographers in future challenges.
The reason I inserted this is not my image is so it did not come across as if the photographer was whining, rather a more concerned member discussing the voting trends.
In IMHO this fitted the challenge way over the top and out of the box.
Spelling.

You likely would have scored a few places higher if voters would have not voted down b/c they thought you cheated.
