Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR DG IF-ED

YAY! He brought me my new Canon 100mm Macro 2.8 USM today!!! I've got some practice ahead of me but here are a few quick shots from today (a windy day no less). Anyone have tips and tricks to share while I learn?

Cool shots! I love that lens and I love the Brown Truck, even when he stops a few houses down I get excited despite that fact that I know I didn't order any new gear(wishful thinking). My tip for that lens is to switch it to manual focus when doing macro. You can set the focus to the closest focusing point and then you move the camera to get the portion of your subject in focus that you want, sort of rocking to and from to find the sweet spot. I always find a high success rate when I do that. Have fun!

You will have a good time with that lens. A good macro will allow you to jump start your way into the "zone" when nothing else can do it. I put on a macro lens and just walk around the yard for a while, and it is like therapy. Within 20 minutes I am totally immersed in the world of small. I hope that it works the same for you.
A good monopod is a great help if you want to move around much while you are in the macro mode. I also use self timer on 2 sec a lot to help with camera shake. Try holding and shooting as normal but with the camera turned off, and you will see the shake when you press the shutter release. The 100mm amplifies this effect.
I look fwd to seeing more of your macro shooting in days to come.
That lens can also be very useful as a medium tele, or for low light events shooting. Don't think of your new one as just a lens to shoot macro with. The old Micro Nikkor 105/2.8 that is in my kit is just awesome at infinity too.

Thank you Waddy! I spent 30 minutes walking around the yard with this lens today and wish I had more time before it was time for errands and chores! The world of small is a familiar place for me (I'm 4' 11" :D ) so I don't have to bend down far to get close to my subjects! I've always been intrigued with macro photography so much to my delight, hubby got me this lens for our 7th anniversary. Now I hope to do more than insects and flowers with my lens! Since winter is coming on us I will have to setup the studio and try some new things with this lens. I will be going to a school play at the end of the month .. if I get close enough seating I will try this lens during part of the play to see how it does. I loved using my 85mm for the volleyball games! Football, well I will stick with the 75-300mm .. getting too close to that action could get me trampled and I've avoided that (barely) for 3 years now! LOL

nice! I've been wanting that particular lense for a while but I gotta pay bills lol all in time!

Hahaha .. I'd loan it if I had a spare .. but I don't and I'm having fun with my first macro lens! I'm hoping for a nice day tomorrow so I can get out and take more pictures (with no wind this time).
