Lately I have been shooting some high school football and golf so parents can go on my site and purchace prints of their kids. Well, because of this I have had some parents approach me and ask me do some senior photos for their kids because the photographer the school hired "sucked". Their words, I never saw the photos. What I was wondering is if anyone would be willing to share some example contracts with me for portrait sessions as I am a complete dummy in this regard. Are there any sites that have generic, fill in the blank type contract examples for photographers? Obviously I have no studio so I will be shooting on location. For the couple of parents that have asked me I told them I would do the shoot and they can just order the prints they like from my site. I am hoping to get my name out there in this way from word of mouth and then with future clients start charging for my shooting time also. Any advice, links?

Thanks

Other than maybe a model release there is not such thing as a portrait contract.
Google your area and see who's doing senior portraiture. Most studios (main street types) do it and advertise such on their websites.
This will give you an idea of what they're charging and what they're giving the client.

While it varies a bit, generally there is a session with a session fee do when you shoot it. Then you have a way to proof the images for them to choose what they want. The key to high sales is usually a good proofing system -folks buy on emotion, so just posting pics on a website isn't the best way to go.
Then you need packages and prices. Some lower end ideas are just to sell prints - but there's not much excitement in that IMO. Kids want wallets, mom/kid want multiple poses, and mom wants a big something (one large prints or a collage of many images or even a book) as well as prints for grandma, aunts, uncles, etc. Controlling the number of poses in a package is how it's usually done - to sell 10 prints of one edited pose takes a lot less time than to sell 1 print of 10 images you need to edit.
