| I'm thinking about buying this lens for my Canon 300D. The reviews I've read sound very good. Anybody have any experience with this one? I have the Canon EF 100mm 2.8 USM for macro photography so I won't use it for this. Thanks in advance. |

It̢۪s a great lens. I don̢۪t think it is quite as well built as your 100mm lens but it is decent, has a ring USM, IS and very good optical quality. I can̢۪t really see how you could go wrong with it unless you want to shell out 3x the cash for say a 24-70mm f/2.8L.

This was my main lens on my film camera for the longest time. I now use it with the 10D. My Orange and Wheels entries were taken with this lens.
One of the things I like about it is the close focusing distance (1.6 ft) without a closeup filter. With the closeup filter you can get within inches at 135.

| Thanks Greg. I really want the IS because I hate to carry a tripod. I'm hoping to see some improvement over my EFS 18-55mm. I'll still use this lens, at least for now, for a wide angle shot. |

Most of my 22 entries have been taken with this lens. It's not a Canon 'L' lens, but it's also not 'L' price. I highly recommend it as a good walk-around lens.
You should also check out the reviews at dpreview.com. There are many many posts regarding this lens - the vast majority recommending it. |

It's a great walkabout lens, very decent range (but a bit long at the wide end) and the IS is really helpful especially for those 1/30s shots at 135mm. Sharpness wide open at both ends are very acceptable for me.

| I own it, and it is definitely my favorite "walking around" lens, especially if I can only take one lens with me. |
