Shot on the second day of Easter.
There were four 'mothers' protecting two little ones. When I first saw them, they were on the opposite of the canal. They hissed to people, chased other birds away and even attacked a big dog. They jumped on top of him with flapping wings and biting where they could. The BIG dog ran off! :)
While I was watching a while they jumped in the water and swam around a couple of minutes. After that they came out on my side.
At first they hissed at me, flapped their wings and gave me angry looks. I did nothing and they got bored of me I guess. So I tried my luck and stepped closer, again the hissing routine. Kneeled down, hiss flap hiss, but they let me stay. They relaxed and started to eat. So I shot a few photos and this is one of the best I think.
Just the night before I read some advice about waiting, looking around etc by Charlotte Lowrie and Peter Burian and MSN's Photo thingie. A lot of helpful articles there and the advice works. :)
Hope you like it.
Here is all four of them btw:

Perfect capture Sander. the focus is spot on, and just enough DoF. Very nice composition too. The soft light is perfect.

I like these shots Sander. I used to own some Toulouse Geese. They were very jealous and possessive if my husband got near me. They were the most wonderful birds and felt wonderful to hold. The female was as soft as anything I've ever felt. Thanks for sharing your photos, they are beautifully focused and the color is super. |
