Quit my day job at the coffeehouse and I'm going into this thing full time! Whoo! Very excited. :D I've had all the legalities taken care of for a while now, and I've had fair business, but my job was holding me back and making scheduling difficult (I'm sure many of you can relate).
I did my first wedding a few weeks ago (loved it), I'll be showing at an art festivall on Saturday, have a CD album cover gig coming up this month, going to launch my stock portfolio (via Photoshelter PA) on the 17th, hoping to get a few restaurant menu jobs, have a church Christmas card gig in Nov. etc. Going to try and run with this building momentum, and we'll see where it goes!
Wish me luck!

Good luck, but here's your first business challenge. Photoshelter is leaving the stock business.

Wish you the best of luck. I'll never go full time, just not good enough. I've been good enough for the small town folks around here, and most can't afford to go to a "real pro" and opt for me instead. I like the little extra money, and can afford to work within most everyones budget.

Seems like you have more options to making your footprint in this business...I hope you "clean up"!

Yes, I have seen that and it was quite a challenge to figure out what to do. I looked at several other stock agencies, but didn't find any that I really liked. And while the Photoshelter Collection (PSC) is closing, they are still keeping their first service (The Photoshelter Personal Archive (PA). The archive is like an off site storage place and pay a monthly fee for however many gigs of space you have, etc. BUT you can also sell photos through the archive. They have the same pricing profiles (and you can still make your own), galleries and lightboxses, website integration, and the commission is only %10 per sale. It will take a bit more advertising time on my part as the search system is a bit different (I think), but I think it's a great platform to use. Now if Photoshelter dies completely... blech, I've heard Alamy is pretty good. ;)
