Well, almost: Canon BP-511 compatible batteries for $5.99 shipped. Generic, but hey... 6 bucks! ;-)

2 or 3 months ago I bought a generic battery from B&H for my camera, it's now dead. I wish I had only paid $6 for it though!!! I paid $30 or $40 I think.

I've been using SterlingTek batteries since I got my G3 in 2003. The Canon batteries which came with the G3 and 10D have crapped out while the SterlingTek batteries are still going strong, even the one that's been dropped and has a cracked casing. They were only $12 each.

ETA: For $6 these are probably worth a shot.

Hey thanks for posting this the other day, Shannon. I got my battery today. It feels lighter than the Canon, but hey six bucks for an emergency or backup - can't beat that. Plus I got a macro out of it for my side challenge. :)

...but only if it holds a charge!

Let us know how it works.

Like Colette, I've had very good success with Sterlingtek batteries. I still have a couple from the G6 that I'm using in the 40D without problems.

I just ordered one. I have a couple other 3rd party batteries, an Opteka and one without a brand both from Amazon in December for a few bucks more and they have so far been indistinguishable from the original Canon 400D battery.

Well, that didn't work out very well. Caveat emptor; I should have checked the part number. It said it was for a Canon Rebel 300D. I just received it and it's much too large a battery for my 400D, which I thought took the same batteries. Since I got it free (plus shipping) I guess I can't return it. I'll have to find someone that can use it.

How much did you pay for shipping? Send me a PM, I may take it off your hands, if you want.
