There's no accounting for what makes a car become a cultural icon.
Having been a car person all my life, I watched so many come and go.........I'm glad to see the resurgence of style and purpose come back in so many offerings from my generation.
The technology has made them better, safer, and more fun, too.
The New Beetle is so much better than the original in so many ways it's just astonishing. I loved both that I had, New and the older ones as well.
I worked on them for over 40 years, and am delighted to see how Volkswagen has grown from its humble origins.
Lament the passing not at all, because many have been preserved in various forms that most people haven't even seen, and they are cared for better than when they were just cars......or buses, or Kombis, Things, or Variants, or Kubelwagens, or.......
