Now you tell me. :)
BTW I found how to get the 50D raw files into LR. Adobe Labs has a release candidate for Lightroom 2.1 that unofficially supports the 50D.
Here's the link

Well, any pics from the 50D yet? How do you like it? Favorite feature so far? Worst?
I'm going nuts waiting for Adorama to get mine in and ship it. |

I just ordered mine from ebay. I can't wait until it gets here. Are those pictures with the kit 17-85mm lens? |

No, I just purchased the body. The photos were taken with a Canon 70-200mm f/4.0L and a Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS. |

I am so pissed right now! I will never deal with ADORAMA again! When the Canon 50D was announced, within 24 hrs I called them and ordered mine. I even asked if I could pre-pay. The guy said they usually do not do that, but I said I wanted to so that I would be assured a camera the first batch. He was hesitant, but when I said no problem I'll order elsewhere, he was happy to oblige. Well, they got their first shipment in - and guess what....they ran out before getting to my order! The sales guy said I'd get mine in the next order, but he has no idea when that will be and to call and talk with customer service tomorrow. He said he'd refund my money if I did not want to wait, but heck it took them 2 weeks to refund the $34 dollar overcharge when I pre-paid. Not to mention now everyone will be out of them and I'd end up on the bottom of a waiting list. Never again will I buy from these folks as they have been rude since they got the money and denied the overcharge until I told them I was looking at my bank statement and told them how much they took. Then they came up with three different stories as to why that happened. Grrrrrr |

Oh Linda, so sorry to hear that. I think most everyone here can appreciate how it feels when you have a new camera on order. So you aren't going to cancel with them, then? I can see why since you're committed now. For my money the only mail order outfits I have complete confidence in are B&H and Canoga Camera, just for future reference really. Hang in there, you'll have it soon... but sorry to hear of your disappointment today. |

Sorry to hear about your problems with Adorama. I've never had anything but good experiences with them. The day after the 50D was announced I got on waiting lists at B&H and 2 local camera stores. I was thinking that B&H would be the best chance but decided to do the local camera stores just in case. The two local camera stores both called me on the 29th and 30th of September. B&H has yet to notify me. So in the future I plan on doing the local camera store thing.
BTW you might check with your local camera stores. I know one of mine still had the 50D in stock yesterday.

I called the only real camera store in Anchorage - they only have one left in the kit. I only need the body. They were not sure when they would get the next order in, and I decided not to get on the waiting list as I would first have to wait for Adorama to refund my money. I didn't go with the local store to begin with as they tend to mark things up a bit - but when I think of it now it would have been worth it not to deal with the hassles Adorama has been giving me, plus the shipping. |

I don't know if the 50D uses a cable shutter release or not, nor if you just prefer the wireless.... nor if the 50D uses the same cable release as the 40D... but
I paid $80 for my first cable release for my 40D at a local camera store... and when I wore it out, found a guy on E Bay selling it (from Japan) for $8.95 and NO shipping.... sure, the box was written in Japanese and the logo is Japanese.... but for a $70 savings, I don't care, I'll live with it. |

Have you looked into Onecall.com
I got my 40D and my 400mm f/5.6 from them and I've had nothing but positive experiences with them |

Problem is I pre-paid already with Adorama. SO by time I got my refund from them, anyone who has the camera now may be out of them. So by then, I Adorama may have gottn their next shipment in and have one coming to me.
I'm going to call tomorrow and ask to speak with the manager to find out when the next shipment is due, and confirm that mine is going to be coming to me out of that group. |

Good luck. Adorama tried to screw me over a few months back (didn't cancel an order when told to 3 times, charged me for it, refused to keep their word regarding when I'd get refunded, and basically stole my money for almost three weeks). Trying to get anyone on the phone is impossible; they put you on hold and disconnect you, they lie to you, they refuse to pick up, and their voicemail never goes to the person you were talking to, nor do they return calls.
I talked to the customer service person, his boss, her boss, and finally called the corporate office and demanded the director of the CS department, who refused to return my calls.
Never, ever, will I buy from them again.

On a note more in line with the OP - has anyone heard anything else regarding the release of the 50D? Do other stores actually have it? I'm still waiting to hear from BeachCamera regarding my order. B&H still lists it as coming in October and CircuitCity shows it as out of stock.

Well I just canceled my order with Adorama - and spoke to them about having to wait for a refund. They claim they will have my money refunded in 2 days. I sure hope I don't have to go through the hassle Odyssey went through. They had the nerve to tell me they expected another shipment of the camera in sometime over the next week but they could not promise mine would be shipped out and could not tell me where in their list I was. They of course then tried talking me into buying the kit with the 70-200 lens in it - what the heck just $700 more right? I told her no thanks and to just get me my refund. I did get an email confirmation of the cancellation a few minutes later.
Meanwhile, I called the camera shop in Anchorage and they had only two other people on their waiting list, and an order of 8 cameras on back order but that they hope to get in the next week. So I will be getting one of those. |

Good luck with getting your money back soon and the camera shop getting their shipment next week. The wait can be painful, but it will all be forgotten when you finally get the camera. |

I just got a reply to my email to BeachCamera - I was told that Canon released the 50D today and that orders would begin to ship on a first-come, first-serve basis, and that later in the week they'd be able to give me more info concerning when I'd get mine.
Hopefully I'm near the top of the list!

Well, since BeachCamera can't confirm a ship date for the 50D, I canceled my order with them and placed a new order with MPEX, who actually had some in stock when I called. Should have it by Friday, if all goes as it should!

haha, sure is. But here's hoping. I'm booked to spend about 15 hours two weekends from now covering Homecoming for the local university. My 400D will work, but I'd really like to have the 50D by then - not having 1/3 stop ISO settings is really bugging me! :-)

If you’re getting a 50D and planning on shooting RAW, go out now and get more CF cards. I got my 50D yesterday (pre-ordered from Amazon), loaded an 8GB card in there and found I can only get about 333 shots on the card (about half of what I could get on my 40D). Lexar’s having rebates till the end of October – stock up now!
I was only able to take a few shots in the house late last night. ISO 12800 is pretty much worthless from an image quality standpoint (sorry, no pictures to share – I may load some tonight if I can), but ISO 800 is about equivalent to ISO 400 on the 40D, so a nice little bump there. Haven’t played with any of the other cool features though.
