jepp it does.
i own this lens for a couple of month so far and it's a love/hate relationship.
of course the fast aperture is amazing in low-light (it's my first choice lens when photographing inside abandoned buildings) and it's pretty neat for portraiture, too because you can get a nice soft oof background while retaining sharpness in the face.
but to tell the truth you ain't gonna like the results wide open or stopped down half a stop. i mean it's ok when resized for web, you won't see a difference, but when viewing full size or crop in, it's a huge difference. to be a bit more precise, f1.8 is really soft, a little better at f2 but not much (center is much better than corners tho+ heavy vignetting). f2.4 already has much better sharpness and contrast, f2.8 is good (still rather soft around the corners, vignetting is almost gone). from f4 it's razor sharp (as a matter of fact i once did a comparison with my trusty tokina 12-24 F4 (the tokina set @20mm), and the sigma did better at f4 than the tokina, especially in the corners.
now a whole different story are the colors. my sigma has quite greenish colors compared to my other nikkor and tokina lenses (the tammi i own is also on the green side). that's not a bad thing because if you know that you can just correct the white balance in PP or even in-camera. what IS bothering a little is that the colors are not quite as saturated especially compared to my nikkor lenses.
what i really love a bout that lens is the focal length! it's perfect for architecture (like i said i mostly photograph abandoned sites with that lens) because at that focal length you don't have much of distortion and it just looks "natural" (at least on a crop sensor). another really cool thing is that i can use it with my old nikon F50 film camera, which then works as a "super" wide angle lens . the downsides are pretty obvious but for me it's still worth keeping it because it fits in my needs.
oh another distracting is the weird focus clutch, but you'll get used to it after a while...;)
hope that helps a bit.
and if you want you can go check out my portfolio for some sample shots taken with that lens (with a fuji s3).
eta: i'll do a couple test shots at different apertures for ya and post them tomorrow or even send you the originals @full size if you like.
