I wasn't going to do it....
I was going to skip CS4 because the only big item I lusted after was the new content-aware scaling and I felt I could live without that for at least one release and save some money.
Then I happened about THIS POST by John Nack. This is a *must* read. It lays out all of the "little enhancements" that have been done to CS4. And I gotta tell ya, it's the "little things" that are making me lust after this latest release.

Bleh. I'm not convinced yet. Well, it wasn't that long ago that I shelled the bucks for CS3, guess I'm still feeling that sting.

Ugh personally I could hang on to my CS3 for a while, shelling out bucks ever so often to upgrade... it takes a toll
so.. I will have to tough it out |

Thanks for posting that link, David. I am one who looks for enhanced usability in the newer versions as well as cool new features like the content-aware scaling. Anything that speeds up editing for me is compelling.
I may just download the trial and load it on a separate PC and play with it for a month before buying though - some things sound good, but often the way they implement it makes it useless or causes you to sacrifice something else that you liked. |

I don't think it's enough for me to upgrade to it. I am still using CS2 and I think my version works just fine... Maybe I'll jump to CS5 when they come out with it.

For those of you who aren't convinced ... read this part:
Curves, Hue/Saturation, and Black & White feature an on-canvas adjustment tool that enables you to click a region of the image, then drag to adjust just the targeted tonal/color range.
This, to me, sounds like the feature in Lightroom where you can click on an the image and then drag the mouse up or down to adjust it. For example, want to darken the sky (and ONLY the sky)? Click on the sky and drag your mouse downward. Wnat to bump up the saturation on a red coat? Click on the red coat and drag your mouse upwards.
I'm serious. This one feature alone, in Lightroom, saves me a ton of time. If Photoshop now has it, I say "bring it on!" :)

But you already have Lightroom. If your gear list is any indication I can't imagine how long your software list would be if DPC had that function on the profile page.

lol ... Yeah, I've spent too much money on software too. :)
I don't view Lightroom as a replacement for Photoshop. LR produces my proofs. PS is used to create the finished products (the images that the customer buys). I feel I spend way too much time in Photoshop, so whatever can be done to speed up editing of images will save me time and help me become more profitable. That makes it worth it to me to upgrade.

From the article:
"Spring-loaded keys: Switch from any tool to any other temporarily by holding down the other tool's key. For example, you can hold "R" to invoke the new Rotate View Tool, drag on the canvas to rotate, and release R to jump back to the Brush or whatever other tool you were using."
Now THAT'S cool! Also:
"Live under-cursor preview for cloning/healing (a la Vanishing Point)" - Finally!!
And I agree that dragging the mouse on your picture to make adjustments like curves is very cool too. I'll probably download the 30-day trial, and see if it's worth the $199 upgrade. Some of this stuff sounds amazing on paper (or web), but I never get around to using it (a la vanishing point--it's great, but I never use it). |

| What? I just bought the CS3 Master Collection a few months ago after being assured by my Photoshop instructor Adobe wouldn't be releasing CS4 for quite some time. I guess CS3 will do just fine for quite a while longer. Hmmm...I wonder what upgrade deals they'll be offering. |

The upgrade prices are kinda steep but be warned if you have CS 3.3 then its a little cheaper but you have to call CUSTOMER SERVICE to make sure you are getting the right pricing, took me several calls and a couple days to dig that up, I kept getting told that the Price for both my suites was $599ea and in reality that's true for CS3.0 but if you got the CS3.3 Upgrade then the cost for Design Premium and Web Premium is $440ea which makes quite a difference in the final cost...
