Description:
This is the 1,000th challenge at DPC! To commemorate reaching this number your challenge is to go back into the archives and choose a past challenge to shoot. You MUST include either the challenge number and/or name of the past challenge in the title.

Side note: If you click on the drop down menu for Challenges on your tool bar and select Challenge Archives you will find that 911 challenges to date have been archived.

I predict we will reach the 1,000th challenge in January 2009:-)!

Sounds fun. This might be a little broad though. I think folks could photograph anything and then just shoehorn it into a one of several different challenges from the 1000 to date. Maybe something along the line of revisit a challenge that you already entered. Of course those that have entered 200 challenges that would still be able to shoehorn almost anything.

How about this.

Do Over: Here is your chance for a Do Over. Pick a challenge from your profile, where you scored poorly or in hindsight wished you had done something different. You MUST include either the challenge number and/or name of the past challenge in the title.

Not sure if this is better/worse/same as the "Any from the Archive" Challenge from the OP. Thoughts?

As for a shoe horn... ya think anything is going to stop that?

How about for the 1000th... we redo the 1st challenge (I didn't even look at what it was).

I think that sounds cool, as it showcases your own growth.

Road signs II

From the looks of it road signs was challenge number 1 but it has a challenge ID number of 2. So is the 1000th challenge ID#1000 or is it ID#1001?

I do like that idea for not only does it revisit the past 'history' of DPC but gives the DPCer a chance to revisit and improve one image from their own past performance.

The two drawbacks to that:

1) Those who have very few challenges in their belt at the time of this challenge will be rather limited in their choices.

2) My added aim (and hope) is that DPCer's would take a stroll down 'memory lane' of DPC's past and choose something that they wish to shoot that nonetheless STILL fits in with DPC's past challenges. Limiting it to just challenges the individual DPCer particpated in limits the stroll down memory lane, so to speak.

Hmm, there was no challenge #1 or #3... maybe more. That will make it very confusing. =)

Hmmm wonder why they coded it Road Signs as #2 - mayhap because of a code problem. For those who are wondering how we are coming up with this if you click on Road Signs to show the results look up in your address bar/ the URL address and you will see that it states CHALLENGE_ID=2 in the address.

Wouldn't this reveal who you are during the challenge? Unless you are talking about redoing the challenge but entering a completely different subject.

Good point. I think that it should be a totally dif. photo for the same challenge unless you want to do the same.

Naw, just scratch the "you must" clause.

I think just the challenge name would be fine.
09/24/2008 10:36:18 AM · #16
How about making it a redo of your lowest scoring challenge entry challenge name, but allowing freedom to use any subject that meets that challenge? Then listing the challenge name as part of the title so it doesn't look like a free study since voters probably won't be looking up 200 challenge numbers. This may make it hard to stay anonymous. You could leave off any II, III, IV.

The challenge number just lets you find the challenge. It is not the same thing as the Photo number, so it does not tell who the user is. A sample title could be in this format.

"Challenge 916: Shallow DOF: Your Title"

Then you just edit the url to replace the last number and you can find the challenge easily if you want to look at all the entries.

I know the diff between challnge and photo numbers. And it would reveal who it was. If I took a photo of the same thing I entered in an early challenge like Surrealism, Rock/Paper/Scissors, etc. My entry is the only one like that. Not everyone uses cliche images in challenges. So if I enter the same subject, with previous challenge title, who's name will they see?

If previous challenges are open for consideration, free studies should probably be excluded.

Here's a different thought.....

Have a challenge to remake the "highest" scoring photos at DPC.

I do not think anyone was implying that you have to use the same subject, sorry if that was not clear. When you do a "Do Over" of say the Ducky challenge, you are free to use different ducks in different settings. You get to do it over completely, that is make a whole new photo for an old challege topic.
