...or you could say an "accidental" shot. Have you ever intended to take one photo and ended up happily with something different? I have found those to be some of my favorites. Here are a few of mine:
I was at this park specifically to take waterfall shots. I picked a day when it would be less crowded, and went during hours I felt would have reduced crowds. I remember I was SO annoyed when this group kept standing in front of my intended shot! Finally I had the "duh" moment and starting taking the shots with them in it. :)
I was doing a "photo a day" project when I passed this phone booth one evening. I remember thinking "I need to come back and use that for a shot because you don't see these 'Superman' phone booths anywhere around here anymore. I didn't notice the surroundings at all, just the phone booth. I pretty much had it in my head to do a b/w vintage type feel for the phone booth. I went back probably 2 weeks later early in the morning on my way to church to get the shot for that day. Right time of day for the shadows, and of course the building backdrop and bright colors worked together perfectly.

Here I had set up to try the light/shadow play on the steps leading up from an underground mall to the Vancouver Gallery, using a long lens. Another photographer, apparently, had the same idea -and a wider lens. He walked into my shot.
Staged serendipity. Here I was shooting a heron roost, when I noticed this figure slinking against the shadows. I missed the shot and ran after him to persuade him to repeat the sequence for me. He appeared inebriated enough to be cheerful about accomodating my directions.

I was walking through Rome with my wife, our daughter, two friends, their 3-year old, and, of course my camera. I wanted to get the perspective here for a challenge. As I was setting up (and my comrads were walking away), This woman appeared and this man popped out of the floor. I didn't even see the beauty of it until I checked it out back at the apartment.
This was shot from my car while sitting at a red light. I regret my treatment on this one but I like the subject,
