Bout to get a lens hood I am not sure if i want to go with the canon one made for the lens or the B+W rubber.

My only concern is the B+W rubber i see is made for a 50mm standard lens.

You mean a 50mm thread or 50mm focal length? That lens has 58mm threads, I believe. If the hood is for 50mm length, you might see shadows creeping in corners at the 18mm wide end.
