I was browsing through photos and comments and came upon one comment that I found hard to understand a basis for. I won't post the photo in here as I don't have permission from the photographer. However, the comment made was that "the colors seem off". I've also had one myself that I don't understand...."looks like you didn't put any effort into it"????

I'm wondering how anyone can make a judgement as to color being "off"??? Yes, I can see where it can be said of perhaps, skin color (ie: skin looks purplish or too blue or green) but, other than that, how can one say that color is "off"? Based on what comparison? And, while I can see that people can make a judgement that a photo doesn't appear to be as intricate a set up as some others or the final result isn't as pleasing as others, to say that it looks as though a photographer hasn't put any effort into it is a judgement that no one can make. How does one judge "effort"???

Anyone else experience similar comments on any of your shots?

Pretty much everyone on this site has received comments along those lines at some point.

We all get comments like that. I had one in a challenge a good while back that simply said "the color looks a little off." It was a yellow flower and a black and yellow bee. It's not like there were many colors to be "off". But hey, just let it roll off your back. Not everybody is gonna like everything you do. Don't let it bother you.

Nothing uncommon...take it w/a grain of salt. Besides, they may need to calibrate their monitor as they may not see the photo the same way you do.
I had a similar instance to Stiger's. Yellow flower, dark brown center (no bug) and I was told the color was off. But at least they explained that it appeared to have a green hue to it. (And then I went off to calibrate my monitor and it helped, lol!)
As for effort...how would they know. :)
If you like your shots, who cares what some of the comments are. You can never please all of the people all of the time.

Thanks all.

I think I just needed to vent some frustration. :) Actually, it wasn't even my photo that got me going this time. *smile* I should stay away from browsing comments on other's photos as heaven knows, I have enough frustration with some of the ones on mine! ;) My keyboard takes quite a pounding some days.

I will sometimes add to a comment that I see a color cast if it's very apparent. Skin tones are pretty easy to see if they're off, along with other things like objects that should appear white or gray. I add the comment to tell the photographer what I'm seeing here and hopefully help them out.

I cannot see where the comments about setup are coming from, unless the commenter was there to see what happened.
