what is Portrait Artists , Dog Portraits

I do not understand the question.

Are you asking about Portrait ARTISTS and how THEY do dog portraits?

Or are you asking about Dog Portraits and poses, lighting, etc... as it pertains to PHOTOGRAPHY??

Portrait ARTISTS take a snapshot or other photograph of your dog, child, whatever and make a painting out of it.

For PHOTOGRAPHING dogs or taking dog portraits, I suggest you have a look through Konador's portfolio. He does some amazing work with animals and it should give you some ideas.
