Ok, so I'm doing some translating work for a clothing company here in Taiwan and they are looking to expand into Europe.

They have some nice sponsorship arrangements and things like this, but their big thrust seems to be mostly trying to get photos and advertising material of athletes in motion in Europe and in European events. Sadly, most of the people we have dealt with so far have rather poor photographers.

I'm just curious if there are any guys already doing event photography in the European cycling race scene that might potentially have some interest in picking up referrals, and possibly some small one-off jobs here and there.

There is nothing specific at all yet, I'm just trying to get some things ready for a meeting next week on marketing strategy for Europe. I'd like to make a short list of guys/gals who get around or who otherwise have experience in cycling photography.

You may PM me or respond in this thread.

Between three primary branches of cycling, (BMX, MTB and Road) I'd say that their main focus is Road, but it doesn't matter.

Thanks.

i've been doing triathlon for almost 15 years now and even tho i hardly participate at the races anymore i sometimes do visit the competitions and shoot the road racers. i've also just started participating in MTB races. that said i'm really interested in biking (tho i've never been into bmx really) and also shooting races.
there's a big list of MTB and road races still to come this year here in germany and i'm planning on visiting and shooting some of them so if you're intersted i'd be up for it! :)
i have my fuji s3 and several lenses (plus wireless flashes i'd love to test on a race shoot) but may also be able to pick up a 1d mkkII from a friend of mine which is probably more suitable for sports.
note: i'm NOT by any means a professional sports photographer but have rather shot at some events just for myself. my main interest (as you can see when looking at my portfolio) is still portrait and concept photography.

I have quite a few shots from this place as it is just up the road from me, could almost do them 'made to order' if you like.

Hey Mephisto - I'd be interested in knowing when and where road races are in Germany for the rest of the year. Either post here or PM me. Not sure I'd be the best hope for photographing for a sponsor - I'd just like to attend!

Thanks for the responses guys.

I feel better having the names of a few guys like you who I know I can trust to bring some real pics back.

Mak and Mephisto - I'll be including your names as contacts this thursday when I pitch my strategy. I'll call you guys freelancers. For now, this is going to remain an operation of convenience... if it's convenient for you to be somewhere...

Photography would likely involve shooting people wearing specific items of clothing.

Other possible work might involve contact with riders.

The company has had a little bit of contact trying to build a sponsorship relationship with one 'pro' team which has been dissolved at least once (possibly again in the last month... no response - ?) which in my opinion has been wasting their time for the last couple of years. The company sent them about two grand or so worth of high-end clothing for about 30 team members and asked for nothing in return except for a some pictures. Nothing so far. Earlier pictures were from an Ixus 90 (he said the team had a photog with an EOS 450D... I guess he didn't figure on a graphic design type company having programs that could read EXIF....... *people*) and could be classified as snapshots if you felt like being polite...

Melethia. I'll pm you.

Still looking for some more names. I had to postpone my meeting, so it will take place this Thursday.

Anyone out there in France, Italy, Switzerland, Finland....?

Thanks.
