Hope somebody can help me out here... I have been asked to shoot a football game for an area newspaper this Friday. I am trying to find a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS to use for one night. Anyone know where I can pick this up local - borrow -rent, etc.???????

I tried rentglass.com they said it would take 3 days at best and I had to cover replacement cost of $1600 on my credit card to rent it. I said if I had the $1600, I would just buy the lens! LOL

Yeah but NVPhoto is a DPC'er and from what I have read in other threads he is a good dude to do business with and will work with you. Send him a PM I bet he comes through. |

I have rented from Rentglass.com many times and I have never once had the full replacement value charged to my card, only the rental fees and the shipping charges. I wonder why they told you you had to place the full replacement value of the lens on your card.

| lensrentals.com - I have rented from then many times (used rentglass.com prior to finding these guys. Prices are excellent, customer service is top notch. Not sure if they can overnight one, but if their site doesn't offer the option, call them or email them about it. They might not send overnight but they usually bend over backwards, so it doesn't hurt to ask. Also never required a deposit of the lens value. |

since this guy at pro photo rental.com was really nice to deal with and fast on the delivery I thought I'd check for you... the lens you want is available tomorrow but would is rented for Monday so that's no good. Maybe he can still help you with others he has. Might be worth a look.
eta..the 100-400 4.5 is still available and would run you about $80.

If all else fails...
Put the 28-135 on the 400D shoot the game at ISO 800/400
put your 75-300 on the 30D and do the same thing.
Im sure you will have enough light to shoot those lenses around f5.6 each at ISO-400 but don't be affraid to pump up the ISO they are good cams. as for lens speed, they are both USM so should be fine.
Anyway, all the best for the shoot, have fun, that is the important thing.
I'm shooting a wedding tomorrow, 2 bodies, 2 lenses, that's it.

Night football game at those settings would render horrible results without one hella bright flash, then you deal with awful shadows and redeye. He really needs 2.8 and ideally 300mm or so. 70-200 is really kind of short for any field sport unless you wait for the action to come to you. Then you have to know the sport and make sure you position yourself correctly.

Thanks for the plug guys... Just to let you know that my last 70-200 went out yesterday. I do usually need a few days to ship it to you, we have done some overnight shipping, but its expensive.
We don't make you put a deposit on the full amount, you do "sign" a contract stating what you owe if it breaks. I would venture a guess that Rentglass got burned pretty hard and is now taking deposits, they have the client base to make it work.
I do like to work w/ DPC folks, so if you want anything in the future let me know and we can always talk about working something special out.
