"Not all whites are prejudiced. Indeed, more whites say good things about blacks than say bad things, the poll shows."

That's a dumb statement. If you say anything about "blacks," bad or good, you're prejudiced.

It seems like a flawed poll if you have to choose adjectives to describe a whole race. "friendly" "hard-working" "lazy". It forces people to make a stereotype either positive or negative. What if they had the same poll about "whites" and asked white people. Would it show some % (whoever answered negatively) was prejudiced against their own race?

Speaking of polls this one conducted earlier in the year is interesting. Not sure I'd come to the same conclusion as the article did. Maybe there needs to be a poll on what everyone thought of the poll? :P

I looked at the poll itself (found on the previous link). It allows you to choose whether the adjective describes Extremely well, Very well, Moderately well, Slightly well, Not at all, and Refused / Not Answered. What is interesting, is that the same question was not asked with regard to whites. Additionally, the question was not answerable as they usually are with agree/no opinion/disagree and as later questions are (pg 20-22). Also, the majority of those polled had less than a bachelor's degree, were white, married (no kids), earning less that $75,000/year and from cities in the south. they also think rich people have too much influence in the government and 82% say the color of his skin doesn't make a difference to them.

Man people, time to let Palin sink or swim! If you aren't going to let her talk, and she's just a pretty face for the campaign, maybe you should just put her in a bikini.

Yup - GWB with rimless glasses.

EDIT: Strangely, that fact was brought to you by: EXXON! (see link)

I found the comments at the end of this Palin article insightful, as well as the article itself.

I took a completely unscientific poll today (actually someone said: "Did you see that interview of Sara Palin with the Leader of Iran?" â¦

Of course I hadn't. It "was interesting", apparently.

Anyway: This person said that Obama was the only candidate who truly appeared to care about this country and he believes in Obama's goals and ideas ⦠But there's no way he's vote for him. Well, he's a white male after all, and for some reason they find it difficult to get past something never truly described to be.

THen someone else chimes in: "Sara Palin is hot" ⦠I mentioned that I feel opposed to almost every stance she would have on issues. "I like the fact that she would sell the governor's plane on Ebay ⦠that was awesome". Now, I think he would vote Republican if it was Minny Mouse and Goofy ⦠but c'mon people!

I live in Ohio for some reason, so I like to see informed people who make solid judgments (since this is a "battleground state" after all. But from now on at work I need to completely avoid the topic of politics.

Yes, because her snarkiness is so much more important than any issue.

Yes, anecdotal evidence from one restaurant, no numerical evidence to back it up (in fact, the real evidence is to the contrary), but sufficient to make conservatives go "stupid liberals!" A perfect example of Fox News.

There was a report in the news yesterday about someone distributing flyers in New Jersey questioning whether we really want a black man for president, and then implying that America would wind up like Haiti or Zimbabwe. Sick. I would deport the author to North Korea. ;-) Yet Obama appears to be widening a slim lead in most recent polls despite the social "handicap," and I think that lead demonstrates the superiority of his ticket on the things that actually matter.

Look, with the expected pummeling she should get from the very more experienced Biden (and his training partner Granholm), I just hope Sarah can get in a shot or two. The election should already be over and after the debate this Friday it may well be. I just want Sarah to get in a couple licks of her own. This could be very bad for the Republicans. OR she might just surprise you/me.

What I found most insightful was how a group of people (San Franciscans) who claim to be sooooo accepting of "everyone", can be literally asinine in refusing to drink a wine they were drinking a couple of months ago - simply due to an association with a name. Secondly, the comments section of the article sounds waaayy different than the vitriol I read hear. That was my only points.

1. SFer's who now refuse to drink this wine are hypocrits
2. Not everyone in this country thinks like the liberal posters here - and with FOX news' viewership numbers, that is a pretty good portion of the cable viewing nation.

Hey, I watch Fox News, does that make me a conservative?

I also think it's "news" in about the same way Jerry Springer is "news". Hmmmm, now Jerry Springer is a venue where Palin might do well as a guest.

While the patrons of one bar may not be the same San Franciscans who claim to accept others, you do have a point about the utter stupidity of boycotting a product due to name association. It's idiotic. You'd never catch a conservative Republican official trying to make an issue out of such nonsense, right?

I love how conservatives continue to make boneheaded assertions about liberals. Who claims to be "sooooo accepting of everyone?" It's like when liberals get angry and conservatives say "Oooh, I thought you were all about peace." Anyway, have you forgotten "freedom fries?"

Sadly, that's quite true.

Your only points are based on the evidence that I just said was crap, probably based on a handful of occurrences. At least as many Texans are buying the wine for the same reason. Or maybe not. It's impossible to tell because the article did no real research.

The only comments I read were by people who can't tell when they've been duped by fake news, having the exact reaction that Rovian strategists plan for them to have. You have about as much reason to be proud of them as of salivating Pavlovian dogs.

I think you are more conservative than you publicly acknowledge?

:-)

But no, watching Fox news does not make you a conservative. No more than me watching MSNBC makes me a liberal. Sometimes one needs to keep abreast of the opposition. But I suspect that the majority of folks who get their news from MSNBC or Fox are either liberal or conservative, respectively. Furthering my original point - the viewership numbers for Fox indicate that at least a portion (some would argue a sizable) portion of this nation is not as vitriolic in their hatred of conservative positions as reading the DPC rant forum might suggest.

Please show me my statement of pride?

I suspect my typed words were to the effect of "evidence of" rather than a position of "feeling" - one way or another.

The saddest comments from that article, with the least amount of compassion for the human race, are, in no particular order:

The only thing this says to me is that bar hoppers, drunks and alcoholics dont like Mrs. Palin.

They can leave the country and join Usama and Obama.

When is California going fall off the continent and take the weirdoâs with??\

Give me a break San Francisco. You have already defiled the sanctity of marriage...

Many of the people who would, one day enjoy and another despise this Palin Syrah are boorish, narcissistic and far too opinionated to really take seriously. They are also liberal which means their opinions are one sided and without merit.

..etc. I got depressed half way through.
