I'm prepping for this summer. Part of what I do is take digital pictures for a sports summer camp. //www.campojibwa.com I run a fine line of being able to take sports pictures, which I feel show more of what camp is like, and having to take the "smiling kids" pictures so everyones parents are happy.
All of the pictures from last summer have been sorted into albums and can be viewe here: //www.campojibwa.com/oj_online/pictures.htm
If anyone has any tips on taking sports/action photography or critiques of my previous pictures I would appreciate it. I've been reading up on it, trying to make next summers pictures better and did get a 2x telephoto to hopefully help out in getting better pictures for the football and soccer games. I am lucky that I have complete access to every game, and can even walk onto the court/field if I want to. This will be my 6th summer, and the third that I will be taking all the pictures and updating the website. It may be my last, so I want to do the best job I can.

When you reply do an older thread that has been off of the recent list on the front page, thus buming it back to where everyone can see it again. That bugged me for the longest time as well.
:D

When I first learned about it I bugged SO many people because I got a little carried away and people kind of got grumpy at me. That learnt me pretty quick! (I am SO from Idaho)

haha.. I'm not sure when it will be this year. ;) It actually got up to 80 one day already, then snowed the next, so go figure. The summer camp is in northern Wisconsin though.
I'm sorry if bumping before upset anyone (not saying that it did, from the responses though). I think I have a valid photography question in this post, and its not a complaining post like most of the ones I've read lately on here.

Your shots are well exposed and sharp, but I will say that one thing struck me about your action shots.
With a few exceptions, they are a bit too far away and are not composed to show the emotions of the individual camper's faces.
I think you may want to try seting up closer, or using more telephoto, and trying to show the joy and excitement written on each face, while still showing something of the sport involved, rather than trying to get a sense of the whole scene.
You have a great photo in there - one of a really happ y kid smiling up through a big circular tube. That was excellent!! It showed the activity AND the expression on the child's face was priceless. Beautiful.
No doubt parents want to see fun, fun, fun times! Also, it would be a heck of a lot more of an artistic challenge for you as a photographer to capture each *moment* as opposed to each scene. :)
