Deciding which HD LCD TV to buy.

My girl and I are going to bite the bullet and buy a 46"-47" LCD HD TV. :-D
We want to spend about $1500usd I have it narrowed down to 4 but I thought I would get some opinions from my homies at DPC.

The 4 I am looking at are:

//shop3.frys.com/product/5541250?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Samsung
//shop3.frys.com/product/5635431?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Sony
//shop3.frys.com/product/5524250?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Toshiba
//shop3.frys.com/product/5351348?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Sharp

Any tips or opinions would be great! Thanks!

Hmmm, most of what I know just sorta soaked in when my hubby was buying his...we have a Samsung and have had no problems. When we were shopping around, we found Sony, for the most part, was over-priced for the quality. Toshiba, if I remember, wasn't great quality. And Sharp was the other model he was looking at as a potential purchase.

His biggest concerns were:

Refresh rate - especially if you play video games. MUST be better than 10 milliseconds (i.e. should be a lower number) or you will get motion blur. The first tv my husband tried (I think it was LG, but not sure) gave him motion sickness! I think most of the newer ones are pretty good now - it was jsut some of the first models that were really bad.

Contrast ratio - should be at least 1000:1 to keep the whites white and the blacks black.

Resolution - don't remember what the exact numbers are but neither should be less than 720 or it is not HD.

Oh, and you're going to want to make sure you have the proper cables if you want to get true HD picture - really does make a big difference.

I would definitely recommend checking all four sets online for user ratings and opinions.

Hope that helps!

My choice would be the Samsung. I've had good experiences with their large format HDTVs.

Yeah from the reviews and in talking to sales guys the Samsung is at the top of the list.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Ditto that - I just spent about a month researching Full HD tv's and just bought myself a 37" Tosh LCD which goes great with my Pioneer SXV1017 AV amp and my Tannoy F1 speakers and my Morduan Short sub...jebus I could have bought myself some nice L glass with what I spent :-)

Pioneer for plasma, if you have the money, they are amazing.
Panasonic, Toshiba, Sharp, Planar (big bucks), Samsung. Some great tv's out there.

I have that exact Bravia model I believe. Had it a little more than a month now. I love it. And it is a snap to hook up a laptop to it. Picture is excellent. Sound could be a bit better, but I am not complaining. Can hook it up to external stuff, I just don't have any.

Well I went with the 5 Series Samsung. I picked up the HD DVR at lunch and I am now watching the Diamond Backs baseball game in HD and WOW & WOO HOO!!! Can't wait to hook up the laptop to it and surf DPC! :-D

Oh, Art thanks for the use of the card. :-))
