| I really like this idea for digital SLRs. Of course, I'd never get rid of my beloved D300 for one of these, but I'd love to see the idea catch on and have Nikon create one that would work with their lens lineup. |

Based on the new Micro Four Thirds System standard, the LUMIX G1 eliminates the internal mirror structure that defines digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, thus reducing the size and weight by nearly half.** With the mirror-less system, the G1’s flange back, which is the distance between the mount and the image sensor, has been reduced from 40 mm – as specified in the Four Thirds System – to approximately 20 mm.
I wonder if this means that it really quiet when it takes photos with out the mirror slap like a rangefinder. That would be great for street photography and candids. It also has continous Live View. If it was a flip screen I would seriously consider it. Nice camera, I wonder how the photos/noise IQ are. Look forward to some photo examples. |

It has a flip out screen. I love the idea, half consider it, but I am not impressed by the available lenses. Strange that it is the having of optional lenses that is supposed to justify this model as opposed to evolving the FZ series. The convenience and stealth possibilities are unfortunately enough to postpone my decision to move up to a Dslr. Anyone notice a timeline for the eventual release? Prolly at least 6 months.

When is a SLR not an SLR? When it's the Panasonic DMC-G1 :)
Well, it's not a P&S, and it's technically not an SLR either ...

| I wonder why there is not more interest in this. It is really one of the bigger innovations in cameras in a long time. It also has an electronic viewfinder. Pretty cool, can also accept all four thirds lenses with an adaptor. |

As far as I recall, it is due to be released at the beginning of November, though there are only two lenses due out this year. However, as mentioned it can use all four thirds lenses with and adapter.

| Yes, there is an adapter, but I'm not sure how well adapters work - seem to remember some negatives thereon. On the other hand, if the EVF (100%!)is as good as they say I think there is something big happening, though why this hasn't happened sooner is puzzling. As well, I have always been puzzled by slr viewfinders, film and digital, NOT have 100% fov, or whatever it is called. Originally I think it was a marketing decision in film days because they thought amateurs were always leaving something out. |

You can't go wrong with the Panasonic. If you'll look closer, you'll find they have Leica lenses.
You can't beat that. I own a Panasonic DMC FZ3 and FZ7. I also purchased a Canon 30D. I still use my Panasonics.
They take gorgeous pics.
Buy it.
You won't be sorry. |

| Unfortunately the lenses the G1 comes with are NOT by Leica. (I have the FZ10 and FZ5, handmedowns!, and I would never part with them, but they do have the Leica lenses). |

| I definitely think this is one of the cooler things to come out. Granted, I also wouldn't trade my d300 for it, but the basic idea is great. It makes a more realistic stab at the "Bridge" camera segment. I would be curious for a price point for sure. At this point, I would say this is potentially the best bet for somebody who wants something more than a P&S. Also very curious to see if this impacts the sales of low level SLR's as well. 2 more lenses are apparently due out next year too. |
