My 21" monitor went on the blink and had to go back for service. I guess it has been dimming for a while and I just didn't notice it. So today I bought a 21" replacement since it will take over a month to ship and get the other one back. The new one has a flat triniton tube that although I'm adjusting to since it is back to the correct brightness, but I think the triniton tube has much better sharpness and black level than the other. I've gone back and looked at some pictures of you guys and low and behold, they even look better on this one.

Ok, so i can safely blame my monitor for all my photographic faults - my editing, my viewing for voting, etc.

Cool!

It ain't my fault! I take back all those comments i ever made! LOL

I'd love a 17 or 19' LCD monitor...tons brighter than this low end 19" crt i have now.

Hi Deafwolf... unfortunately a better monitor works for and against you. Now some of the photographic work you do on your new monitor may look great to you, while others with less capable equipment may see it differently. I've a pretty good idea that at least 10 percent of the monitors people from this site use, can't pass the gray bar test.

I have both CRT monitors and a recent vintage (2003) Sony LCD monitor. The LCD does not have sufficient dynamic range or brightness to properly display photo images.
My favorite is a Viewsonic Ultrabrite A70f. Just my experience, anyone else have good results with LCDs?

Garry, yea, I understand that. I just finished calibrating this one and even though it's sharper, the color and gray scale are about the same. I think the power supply had been slowly making my other one dimmer and less in focus. It wasn't horrible in viewing, just started having brownouts. I know that online photo display and contests will not always work for some peoples monitor.

I've not seen many LCD's in my price range that will reproduce images like a tube yet.
