Well, a group of friends and I hiked to the summit of Mt. Whitney (14,500 ft above sea level), which is a 22 mile and 15+ hour hike. This was my second time (last time was 2005) and is likely to be my last time as well. There are so many wonderful photo ops throughout the hike that I made more of an effort to get some good photos. Unfortunately, because the hike is so difficult and I was trying to minimize weight, I did not pack my DSLR and lenses. So here are a few of the images I managed using the Canon P&S.

There are more images in my Whitney 2008 folder.

These are awesome. there is nothing like making it to the top of a 14er. I have done several in Co. in the past but wasn't into photograghy then so i have no photos for memories. thanks for sharing these.

Congrats on a successful hike! I did it in 1991, and it's remained a high point (literally!) in my hiking memories.

We camped at the trailhead and woke up at 3:30 to get a jump on the day.

It looks like you had good weather for the hike too. I can imagine the out of breath hiking you must have been doing. Going back down seems the hardest part to me every time that I hike up something big. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments... it was quite an experience both times! The downside is that the hike is so difficult that it's hard to focus on getting some shots in. Also, I didn't want the added weight of a DSLR and lenses, so the quality of the shots is marginal. Surprisingly, I did notice a few people carrying their DSLRs though... well maybe next time (if there is a next time).
