The idea is to choose a man or woman made thing -artifact - and try to photograph it so that the light tells us what you want to say about it. Guess that's what photography is anyway. The thing must be the subject of the photograph, so this is not an abstract challenge, though certainly abstract elements can come into play. No rules about background, but background may not compete with the subject. The reason for this suggestion is my haphazard and unventuresome approach to photographing things. Those with formal art training may have little need of this as an exercise, as they will have no doubt spent agonizingly long periods of time drawing the same thing, learning to see. For me this would be a great challenge, and I would hope to learn a great deal from the other entries. I would suggest Basic Editing.
Alternatively this might make a better side challenge, but I am curious as to what other DPCers might think. Possibly way too basic for most. |

Would probably be interesting but I don't have access to any artifacts and I think a lot of people might be in the same boat. |
