Oh - I take no responsibility for the above link, I just ran across it somewhere and thought it was interesting.

why not buy ten of these, extract the microdrives, and resell them for double on ebay?

after checking ebay, it seems you can get the extracted ones for 250. not bad at all

O, lots of people have already thought of that. The microdrives in the newer units are built so they only interface in one mode, making them pretty damn useless as general purpose devices.

I'm confused... why would this be more beneficial over a MediaXchange 40 gig drive for all digi cam media types at $300?

i got a muvo, extracted the 4 gig microdrive and it seems to work well in my d70. i'm told by a friend who uses it in his canon digital rebel and he was concerned that it was slow to upload photos when near full. not sure if this will be a problem for me...i haven't had a chance to get anywhere near full yet.

pretty slick.

best regards,

Thanks Eddy... I guess I still don't understand how 4 gig is better than 40 gig.

tfaust 4GB is better in this case because the microdrive is IN your camera and gives you a lot more shots before you have to download them into the 40 gig mediaXchange. If you are shooting outside in dusty or humid conditions you don't want to have to exchange CF cards.

Yes, I have performed this stunt to.
The Hitachi 4GB MicroDrive works great with my D70.

I just received my 4gig Hitachi Microdrive, got it for $225 on eBay. 560 RAW pics available to me now in one shot!!! Woo hoo! It's selling for $499 at B & H, but with the Muvo deal there are a lot of people selling these drives on eBay, if you are lucky you can get them for around $200.

Don't buy the extracted ones. After people started doing the Muvo thing the makers changed the design and the drive is now soldered into the player. It can be extracted and cleaned up but could be damaged by the heat needed to melt the solder. You can buy a new Hitachi 4 gig drive on eBay for about $250-300.
