I am escaping from the rock called Kaua`i for a month. It took me 2 1/2 years to decide to go anywhere so I am headed to NY, MN and MO. Strange combo I know, but I have family and or friends in each of these places.
Anyone want to GTG and shoot something, photographically I mean? I was thinking of the Renaissance Festival in Tuxedo, NY, NYC, Westchester County, CT and NJ. Maybe something on Long Island as well. I am open to other ideas as well.
In Minnesota I will mostly be in the Duluth area but I might go to the Minneapple and see my old stomping grounds.
I have never been to Nevada, MO so I don't know if there's anything around there to shoot. I have some very dear friends living in Nevada. Flying in and out of Kansas City, MO.
NY from Sept. 10th through the 19th and again from Oct. 3rd through the 7th.
MN from Sept. 20th through the 28th.
MO form Sept. 29th through Oct. 1st. Any suggestions here? |

WOW, a month's vacation. Lucky you. I'd love to join you in Minnesota but I'll be out of the country at that time. There should be some fall color in the Duluth area Fall colors map. Otherwise go here Explore Minnesota for some ideas. |

Missouri... You might be able to get to lake of the Ozarcs. Pretty over there. If you like urban, Kansas City is north of there.
I'm down in the bootheel on the other side of the state. As a transplant, (year ago) I'm not much help. Sorry.

That's funny. I was just thinking it would be nice to get away to Kauai for a while. And a month would be just about right. :D
I guess one man's paradise is another man's rock, eh?
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your vacation.

Yes, a month is a fair amount of time to explore the mainland. Kaua`i is a wonderful rural paradise and it took me some time to decide to take a vacation and the fall colors are an especially beautiful mainland attraction. The reference to Kaua`i being the 'rock' comes from a friend that lived here for 12 years without leaving and the term is his, not mine, he has since moved to Santa Fe NM.
Thanks for the Minnesota information Steve, great to know about the fall colors map since without it, people in MN just don't really know when the colors happen, they just happen in Duluth. I grew up in MN and I don't think I've been there in 4 to 6 years. Everyone there wonders if I will be moving back to MN from Hawaii. No need for me to answer that chilly question since I am starting to think 70 is chilly so I don't know what I'd think it being 100 degrees cooler. Sounds down right inhuman. Don't get me wrong I used to love the cold nearly frostbitten walks in the land of 10,000 skating rinks. LOL! I've gotten over it somehow, I think.
Thanks for the Missouri ideas. I hope the transplantation has been good for you Alex.
Michael you are sounding either Minnesotan or Canadian. When I first arrived in Kaua`i I started to get a thick Canadian or Northern Minnesota accent because of the overuse of, yeah, in every sentence and at the end especially, yeah. Of course eh follows yeah very well and I soon lost my nonexistent NY accent for a MN, Canadian one. |

Nope. I'm an Oregonian. I've got the moss on my back and webbed feet to prove it. :D
I was born here in Oregon, but raised in SoCal. My accent is more California hippie/old surfer dude. I've been to Minnesota many times though. My mom was born there and I have lots of family there.
I really want to get over to Kaua`i some day. I hear there's some good diving off the south shore. My son and his wife were there recently. They had a great time. At one time I would have given my left... uh... little finger to surf the north shore of O`ahu. But that was many hamburgers ago. Now I just want to cruise around under the waves. :D

You had me fooled Mick. Maybe the many trips to Minnesota caused the accent and long MN lineage. This could also account for the webbed feet.
I have heard that the diving is quite good in the South. Sorry no grits. lol! |

I asked to have the title changed due to the tragic shootings, in Washington State yesterday. My previous title seemed out of place and insensitive in regard to this news. |
