Obama is a loser, no question there, but never could get excited about the good guys this go round.
Now... with Sarah Palin's selection to the VP slot... My wife and I are thoroughly satisfied and excited with this choice. This is incredibly awesome!
Check now. Checkmate in November! |

Vice presidents don't actually do anything, except of course when the president is a Cheney-puppet. |

Um, tie-breaker in the Senate? And they do serve a leadership function. |

Oh, yeah, all those ties in the Senate, the one with 60 Democrats in it. |

That's really sad that people feel it necessary to stoop to that level. |

I have my doubts that either president will last teh whole term. One is old and sad to say but I wouldn't be surprised to see an assasination attempt on Barack at some point. America has changed but there are still skinheads and militia and such out there. McCain would be the oldest man elected president. While Reagan lasted 8 years he was healthier than McCain is.
So the VP is a very important choice this time around indeed.

I truly don't care that Obama is black and I think MOST people don't either. This is not the 1960s.
My concern is his lack of any proven leadership, his lack of any solid plans for this country -- the ones he's voiced are detrimental or token.
He's a danger. It has nothing to do with his shade of brown (we're ALL a shade of brown). |

Far less dangerous than continuing down the Bush/McCain path we're on. |

Sure, let's start some more wars we have no clue how to finish. Bomb some other countries too. Make the Federal Government so huge that everyone is part of the bureaucracy. Let's saddle our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with debt racked up on pointless and unjustified quagmires. Send millions more jobs to China and put Americans out of work. Line the pockets of the rich with taxpayer dollars. Make it easy for the rich to get richer and push the middle class and the poor further and further from prosperity. Let's keep it legal to treat women as half an employee on the payroll. We can foment Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt until xenophobia is the order of the day.
MMMM yeah, more of that. |

I wish I was American and 18 just so I could vote for Obama. McCain only chose Palin because she's a woman and they'll get a lot of votes because of that.
Pro-life, anti-gay rights, lifetime member of the NRA, thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution, and supports the oil industry in Alaska? No thanks, I'll stick to supporting Obama. |

I will tell you one thing the majority of the people in the military (not everyone however) is nervous about Obama. My reenlistment will be decided by who becomes president. Obama will make life dificult on the military. I think that Mccain should win this election. and make everyones life better. I also really like his VP pic.

I promised myself not to get wrapped up in these political debates on DPC anymore, as they tend to spoil my enjoyment of the site. However, I watched the final night of the Democratic convention and was so impressed with both Gore's speech and with Obama's, that I feel I have to mention it. For me, watching politicians is mostly a cringe-inducing experience, but both democrats had great messages for anyone willing to open their ears and listen.
I think McCain's choice was brilliant, in that by choosing a woman it tends to counter the taint of "same old politics as usual" that another choice might have made. She is a conservative, by the way, not middle-of-the-road.
As for worrying about Obama getting assassinated, sometimes they say the fear is the father of the wish (not implying anything about the person who said that in this thread, as I've heard this theory elsewhere, mostly from conservatives). I think it's a poor reason for not electing someone.
OK, I've said my very little piece and now I'm closing this thread and off to (FINALLY) see Batman/Knight whatever-it's-called at the IMAX at a 9:30 a.m. showing.
Peace out,

I think McCain could have chosen a table lamp as running mate, and this person would be all goosebumpy. Don't pretend his support of the idiots already in charge has anything to do with issues, experience, cynical politicking, good governance, or any of that. People like him are happy so long as the candidate can oomph out support for theocracy, denialism, bellicosity, and various and sundry other self-serving and deadly absurdities. |

Incidentally, if the OP doesn't feel deeply ashamed for posting that vile picture, there's something shockingly wrong with him. So much for Christian charity. The hypocrisy around here is truly stunning. |

I dont know who I want to vote for. Lack of experience on Obamas part has me concerned, However 4 more years of a Bush like admin has me worried. I think it is time for the Republicans to take a break or give us a break is a better way to put it.

You know I LIKED McCain and in a race against Clinton he would have been my choice. But the campaign till now has really put a new light on him that I cannot EVER support. He is not a Maverick he is a panderer. This pick shows it.
I said this in another thread
One heartbeat away: Palin vs Putin. Scary
