Our camera club is struggling with making the transition to digital. About a third of the people are now shooting digital and, with the cost of converting the files to slides, we are looking to add a digital projector. The problem is the cost. Does anyone have any experiences of borrowing a projector that they would mind sharing? The local camera shop will rent one to us for $150 per time (I don't think so) but I was hoping someone might have a brilliant idea of what sorts of organizations might have one that might be willing to lend for a once-a-month meeting. Thanks!

I'd try schools -- high schools and colleges. Large corporate offices. I would suggest reading the reviews, renting the one you're the most likely to get one time, and then just buy one for the club -- I think they run under $2k for one's you'll be able to use.

If there's a private school any of you are involved with, you might consider sharing the purchase and each having partial use -- my guess is that most schools are in about the same cost/benefit bind as your club.

Tammy,

These days most companies use digital projectors for presentations internally and externally. I recently retired from a technology firm and the projectors you speak of are prevalent there. If you have a contact in a local area company (I know Boulder and the surrounding area is filled with possibilities) you might be able to find one to borrow.

One of the more popular brands is known as "In Focus" and has almost become the kleenex of the digital projector world. If you use the term "In Focus" people are more likely to understand what you are looking for.

Good lukc

Does your camera club in Boulder have an online site? I am up in Greeley, CO, and looked around here without much luck.
Don't know how practical it would be (size wise, etc.) What about an older (cuz cheaper) rear projection TV?
Another business to look at. Hospital? they have these for presentations, and may rent out cheap.
