My fiance downtherabbithole and I have been playing since about March, and I can honestly say that neither of have have ever been addicted. I can see how the social aspect can be addicting though. It is incredibly fun just to annoy the crap out of people :)

I played when it first came out, for about 9 months. Maxed my mage, but got tired of being "required" to show up for guild runs every night for hours, where teenage punks that thought they were uber would yell and insult and bitch just to be able to say they got the latest bit of virtual gear. So i quit.

Have some friends that are way too addicted, they convinced me to start playing again early this year. Started a new character on a new server, maxed her in 6 weeks, seeing more of the same-old, same-old, and chucked the game. I don't understand how my 30+ yo friends can devote 20+ hours a week to that nonsense.

ETA: To be fair, they don't understand how i can drag myself out of bed at 5am and sit for hours waiting for a photo op to present itself, either, though one professes to want to be a photographer.

Let me add my experiences to this thread as well...

First, and sadly enough, my devotion to Photography has been slowly dwindling and dwindling. The weirdness of it all is, I can't really pinpoint the cause. I remember a time when it was Addicting. Now not so much.

As for WoW, I am pretty sure I have been playing off and on for a few years now. I started when the original came out, then took a break. The released BC, and I came back. Few months later, I left again. I was the perfect model of an addicted player, sometimes playing all night with no sleep and going straight to work afterwards. I was in a raiding guild, and we were a pretty good one at that. Very efficient, everyone had a job, we normally killed the bosses in the 1st/2nd try.

Now that Wrath of the Lich King is coming out, and I will be sporting a new CPU within the next month *4gb of ram, etc etc, wow wow wow written all over that* I will be begin playing again. I plan on rolling a new Death Priest, nothign like being able to ressurect all the dead guys around you to work for you =).

Right now I have 3 60+ characters, a Warrior, a Priest, and I have a level 70 Rogue. should be fun. I play on Durotan, but pretty sure I will switch servers to get to a not so crowded server.

Anyone care to start a guild? Just a fun, non chalant one, ya know? If anyone is interested, let me know!

I love WoW but unfortunately I can't afford to play it anymore :P, especially with Wrath Lich King that just came out, I'm so sad that I can't play :( I have only one level 70 which is a warlock. I'm kinda lazy to make a new character at this point until I get to lvl 80.

To be honest I was only addicted to WoW for a short period of time, I'm glad i have a short attention span :P it would totally ruin me to get addicted to WoW

And I thought I was bad when I was determined to break a million at one sitting on a pinball game I played on my Apple II+ back in the early 80's. I finally broke a million and never played it again. And then it was getting through all the versions of Lesiure Suit Larry and finding all the points along the way. LOL!

Actually, I guy I know through the local astronomy club discovered a new asteroid last month (2008TM9). It took him a few years of searching and painstaking analysis of photographs from his garden-shed setup, but he did it. And he was the first Irish astronomer in 160 years to do so.

My wife, step son, and I all have acounts. Wife and I play a few times a week for a few hours. Let's put it this way, I have been playing from almost the first release and have only 1 lvl 70. Never been in a raid guild either, always the life before play guilds. And we do pretty good too. Now my wife and I have rolled the new Death Knights. I love the way the new class plays, but for a few of you old timers out there, I used to play a Shadow Knight on the original Everquest. I can see how I could become addicted, but you just need to be adult about it. That's why I love the parental controls on my step son's account. Bad grade.... I just shut him down for a couple weeks. And he is only aloted so much time to play.

heh, I just realized that I've had a full mailbox, for close to a month, and have lost about 50g in expired mails, and the thing is... it doesn't bother me, if anything it is pushing me closer to closing my account again. So I know I'm not addicted...
