Prash, your not wrong and it has happened (maybe still does) however, 2 things to consider, #1 would cheating make 'them' better photographers and #2 SC will find out and then its goodbye from all of us. If a circle of friends voted up an individuals image it would probably be 3 weeks before the algorithms popped up 'their' name as one to be investigated. There have been stories of members not knowing their 'friends' have been bumping their images and sadly they are no longer with us.
These days I rarely vote on challenges I enter and have even reported myself to SC for voting on an image I later realised I'd seen before. My circle of 'friends' have been warned not to vote on my images on pain of death!

Not so worried about name dropping in challenge comments. At least they stopped showing up in foreign languages that miraculously happened to be the native tounge of the photographer.
Somewhat worried at the latest iteration of team competition. There's no mechanism in the site for preventing people from voting on team mate's images like there was for DPL. This mechanism was a great addition to the concept when WPL was taken over by the site. Its absence is a step backwards and everyone has to go back to hoping that dozens of people are playing fair.
