Ok I know exactly which horse(s) I want to shoot and how...I'll have to get up damned early, but hopefully the weather and horse gods will act in my favour and my subject(s) will do what I want them to do... |

I can not wait to see everyone else's entries for this one.
Looking forward to see what people enter, it's going to be a good challenge! |

Last horse entry I did, it took several washes to get the smell of horsecrap off of my clothes. Perhaps this time I'll check the ground before lying on my back...

Anorexic horse.
I like it that the challenge title is Horse(s) a lot less dnmc's...
Now to find a horse... I'm on a Greek island and may have to disguise a donkey... |

I was wondering if I could make do with a very attractive mule that lives down the road. Half a horse is better than none? Or could people just give it half votes? |

I was wondering the same thing too of the donkeys and ponies I have access to. They are after all equids as well, but not technically horses. I'd certainly give a mule a fair vote, cause they ARE half-horse.
BTW quick note to horse newbies: technically, any horse-looking animal under 14:2 hands is a pony. (A hand equals 4 inches, so 14:2 translates to 4'10 at the withers. No pony can stand over 14:2 hands; if it does, it's a horse.) And yes, horses bred with ponies were used to create Miniature horses, which is something else altogether.
However, to further confuse things, a horse can also be under 14:2 hands. The late, great eventing superstar pony Teddy O'Connor was such a beast: he was part Thoroughbred, part Arab and part Shetland sportpony. He stood only 14:1 1/2 hands, so he was considered a pony. The grey TWH I am posing with in my latest Occupation entry is only 15 hands, but as he is over 14:2, he is a small horse.

Possibly the mules and donkeys are risky, although pedantically I would like to insist on their full horsefulness/equininity. The challenge, alas, states "horse(s)," and some people.... I suspect that ponies of a certain size will not be endangered. We will expect the expected along with unexpected, though whether the Trojan Horse that will undoubtedly grace the front page, made perhaps from a certain brand of prophylactics, is the former or the latter is hard to say. |

And then to add confusion....a horse that measures 14.5 hands is a Galloway! Here is an excerpt from one of the Equestion Federation sites.
"It encompasses varying heights of horses and these are recognised by the appropriate classification of Small Pony, Large Pony, Galloway and Hack.
Small Pony is a pony not exceeding 12.2 hands in height and must be ridden by a rider 14 years or under. It is true that most of our junior riders received their Show Horse experience in this ring and then graduated to the bigger horses.
Large Pony is a pony over 12.2 and not exceeding 14 hh and has no age restriction on the rider.
Galloway is a horse over 14 hh and not exceeding 15 hh with the term Galloway being peculiar to Australia. Known as Cobs in the UK and Park Hacks in New Zealand they are a horse of middle height widely shown by children and adults alike.
Hacks are a horse over 15 hh and the sky is the limit with the upper height range! Mostly ridden by adults but a trend of late has seen young riders move onto hacks."

LOL, I can see that happening! I was going to add, if you shoot the mule, just say it's a Dutch Warmblood. That'll explain the ears quite nicely. :-)

I'm assuming that they in fact mean a horse of 14:2 - that means 14 hands + 2 inches, in other words 14 1/2 hands...cause as a hand is only 4 inches, there isn't be such a thing as, say a 14:4 or 14:5 hh horse. It would be 15:0 and 15:1 respectively.

Yo snaffles, checked out the Dutch Warmbloods. They can be huge! Biggish ears yes, but great temperament.
Say, where'd everyone go? Oh right, off to the pharmacy for building supplies. |

Sorry yes.....over here we are used to saying 'half' as '.5' so 14.5 hands is referring to 14.2.....old habits.

Too risky - I would even advise putting a Shetland Pony on stilts to get it's height up :- )
edit to add a horse picture - there aren't enough on this page . .

Thanks Jedusi. Do you think one should show the stilts in the photo or just clone them out as distractions? |

I think you should show them since you went to the effort of actually attaching them in the first place. Risky business. ;o)

Well if you clone them out it'll look like the a Pony that's floating in mid-air . . .
I would suggest getting fur -clad stilts so they can be left in the picture :- ) |
