Got my 1st laptop, and it's a macbook 2.4 white
This is my 1st foray to a mac machine. Can anyone recommend me good sites for mac noob like me to ease me into the system?
My main usage will be for photography workflow usage while away from home. Besides the must hv Photoshop n Lightroom, what else should i put into my MB?
From CF download > DVD burning.

*only those who have Mac computers can see the link. PC users, you are ok... so you shouldn't be forwarded to that site* |

FocusPoint would have fixed it himself, but he was too busy rebooting.

For CF download, I highly recommend a Firewire card reader (Lexar, SanDisk or Delkin). iPhoto Library Manager is a great companion for iPhoto (unless you plan on using Lightroom for everything). You'll probably want this for your SmugMug galleries. Versiontracker is your friend for software & utilities. |

You might like to subscribe to Canon's Pro News Letter at cps@canon-europe.com. It's quite mac-centric. |

just for the Mac features, I found the Switching To the Mac Missing Manual by Pogue to be helpful as a mac newbie a couple years back. I also recommend the Missing Manual for Leopard--when you want to figure out some odd thing (creating password secured sparse disk images, for example, which are nifty little buggers) you can find it there. Plus, easily readable, browsable sorta books, so you can stumble on features of the system you would not have even thought to ask about. |

Mac Bible is an excellent book. Subscribe to version tracker's Mac OSX Daily Report on line (suggest Joining - lots of good info and troubleshooting directions). |

If you have the strip of icons (dock) at the bottom or side,, click the cursor over the icon of the item that you want to close and use the pop up menu.

He forgot the *right click* part to close ... just clicking the X in the upper left corner of the program does not close it, it just closes that window. (takes just a bit to get use to)

I use a mouse with no buttons, so my steps are just a little different.
I think that you will like expos'e (hot corners) when you try it. The settings for that are in the drop-down from the apple at the top corner, then System Pref's then Dashboard /Expos'e. It's very handy for dragging things from one open item and copying it to another.

Oh ok .. I'm sorry .. I use a Wacom mouse and a Logitec because I missed the right click button in a big way! |

Click the blue apple at the top, then system pref's, then dock, then minimize using, genie effect. Hold shift and click on the yellow minimize button at the top of an open page to see it work in slow motion. It's just a fun thing.
For gales of laughter, show some kids the iPhoto house of mirrors faces using the built in camera. I forgot what it is called, but it is hilarious to watch how children react to it.
Kat, no need to apologize, it's just a different way to get to the fun with the no buttons mouse. It helps me because I can't tell left from right most of the time. : )

The maximize button enlarges a window enough to fit the content and won't always fill the screen if it's not necessary to see everything. This can be an advantage if you don't like constantly hiding everything when you click a window.
The red button at top left closes the window. That's ALL it does. Some apps will also close themselves if the last window is closed, but that's a developer decision, and command-Q is always faster for quitting an app anyway. |
