A while back I made a color portrait and posted it at a site other than dpc. I received several responses to the effect that a black and white version might be more effective. I was wondering if some of you might weigh in on the two photos, indicate if you have a preference and critique them for me. I am wondering whether the photos are too dark, among other things. I also don't particularly like the skin tones in the black and white version. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi,
I personally prefer the colour.
As you said the skin tones dont look great in the B&W.
The B&W looks too posed and studio lit while the colour version has more expression around the eyes and there isnt as much glare.
Its a very good shot by the way.
Next time do a cheerier subject involving bunnies :) |

I prefer the BW. It shows more character.

B&W wins easily for me
edit to add - maybe do a bit more work on the eyes though - they are currently a bit dark
