For the last couple of days DPC has been very slow for me. To the point that it is almost impossible to use. It only seems to be a problem with DPC. Below are the results of a ping to DPC and flickr to illustrate the problem. Any of you network experts have any ideas what the problem could be?
Pinging www.dpchallenge.com [78.158.93.74] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.

Maybe Langdon has the router blocking ping requests:Pinging dpchallenge.com [78.158.93.74] with 32 bytes of data:

| I think blocking pings is a dns domain violation with ICANN I'm not sure though. |

"Automated hacker programs" that send pings automatically around thousands IPs a minute looks for pingable IPs first and by passes blocked ones and flags them for a while not top bother again. How do I know? well, say I started this business long time ago... and that was the first one needed to be fixed.
Most private servers now set their servers with "block ping request". Some other companies don't care about it, because they have the secondary and more blocking options for other "digging attempts" from those automated hacking applications... which some of them running now without anyone's knowledge, very old programs still keep pinging since 90s.
So, good for him :) site runs very fast by the way, and don't try to ping. if Langdon has this "Tracer" your IP might be flagged as an "intruder attempt" and could be reported to FBI (No joke)
Just to let you know :) |

I have a compulsive reaction to overly agressive, authoritarian policies.

A lot of places block pings..... I block the google stuff and that speeds things up a lot (although the site loses the tracking).

As you can tell I'm not very network literate. The only other thing I know of is tracert which gives the following:
Tracing route to //www.dpchallenge.com [78.158.93.77]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 45 ms 9 ms 10 ms mygateway [10.1.1.1]
2 94 ms 70 ms 70 ms lo1.akl-grafton-bras1.ihug.net [203.109.128.90]
3 101 ms 69 ms 66 ms gi6-0-0.akl-grafton-edge1.ihug.net [203.109.143.101]
4 75 ms 70 ms 67 ms gi5-0-0.akl-grafton-edge2.ihug.net [203.109.130.133]
5 85 ms 68 ms 72 ms ip-static-202-147-45-73.asianetcom.net [202.147.45.73]

9 468 ms 425 ms 247 ms atlanticmetro.net.any2ix.crgwest.com [206.223.143.125]

11 315 ms 310 ms 321 ms gi0-0.bb01.nycmny02.us.sargasso.net [69.9.36.107]
12 319 ms 322 ms 315 ms gi0-48.dist01.nycmny02.us.sargasso.net [78.158.92.78]
13 * * * Request timed out.
...
I can connect to DPC fine if I get on the VPN to my work's servers so I think it is a problem at my end but what?
PS: How do I block googles tracking traffic? |
