All of you flickr users....
I was just about to sign up, but I don't have a yahoo id.
The main reason I was thinking about using flickr is to share photos with friends.
Do they need to be yahoo users to view photos? Or would they need to register?
Do you like flickr?

You don't need to be a registered yahoo/flickr user to see photos. When you upload to Flickr you have the option of setting them for public or private viewing. You can also set other things like only your contacts can see your images or registered flickr users but those aren't defaults.
