I'm in need of a new camera bag and am stuck between a few choices. It's primary use will be at-home storage; basically it will sit in a corner and hold the majority of my gear, anything that isn't in a smaller bag to be used that day. As a secondary use, it will occassionally have to carry all or most of my gear on trips.

At absolute most it will need to hold 2 DLSRs and 6 lenses, including my 70-200mm. Generally it will only hold 1 body and 3-4 lenses (plus the usual assortment of cards and accessories). Up until now I've used a Tamrac Expedition 5 backpack, but it just doesn't have the capacity I need, and because of the straps it takes up extra space and generally seems bulky.

I've looked around and the following bags look like they might work:
Tamrac Pro System 12
Tamrac Pro System 8
Canon 100-DG

I'm especially concerned with the ability to store my 70-200mm (unmounted) and still have room for the rest. From the descriptions it's hard to tell just how well the bags would fit my needs, and I don't have any decend camera stores within an hours drive. So anyone with some experience with one of these, or suggestions for another, please speak up!

I was interested in your links because I have outgrown my backpack (again). I think the claims of how much those can hold are a bit optimistic. The Pro 8 is smaller than my current backpack and there is no way I could jam two slr's plus half a dozen lenses in it unless the lenses were all small, which they aren't. The tamrac 612 or 614 seemed to be more likely candidates to me.

Pro 8 is definitely too small.

2 bodies and 6 lenses are you sure you don't want a backpack of some sort?

I'm positive that I don't want another backpack. I don't think they hold the most gear well and they tend to be bulky and not store well. Since the new bag will be mostly stationary I think a shoulder-style will be best. I won't ever go hiking with it and if it does travel, it will still be used as a base station wherever I go. I have to smaller bags (a Tamrac Adventure 74 backpack and a small Tamrac shoulder bag) for carrying equipment on outings.

Glad to hear that the Pro 8 is too small. I was worried that it was. I'll definetly discard it and look at the Pro 12 and larger.

I've got the Tamrac 12 and would recommend it. Plenty of room for two bodies, and more than a half dozen lenses and tons of accessories. Bag is tall enough to store lenses upright, and lots of padding and inserts to play around with to get the fit you want. Good mix of both quick access areas for frequently used lenses, and under flap storage for stuff I want to have around but don't grab that often -- like my lens babies and macro extension tubes, which I keep hidden away under the flap that supports my main camera body high in the bag.

I bought the bag because I needed somewhere to store ALL my gear so it was handy, and so I could occasionally grab it and go when i wanted to have everything handy. Its comfortable to carry, well protected, and the bag itself isn't that heavy, so weight is pretty much dependent on weight of your gear. I use this bag in conjunction with a Tamrac Adventure 7 backpack. I typically pull the gear I want from the 12 and then just use the backpack when I'm out on a shoot, and either leave the 12 at home or lock it in my trunk where its handy just in case I find that perfect lensbaby subject!

I just got a Tamrac PRo5 which currently contains my 70-210(mounted or unmounted), a large old 200, a 28, a 58, a 18-55, 55-200 an SB400 and set of extension tubes, with all that I could carry another 70-210in there as well. Also in the pockets are several filters, hoods, some tools etc. The strap is comfortable and attached with metal rings.

Pro 5

I guess the biggest challenge is the size of the bodies and the lense that is normally on them. I really love this bag.

I have the Crumpler The Brazillion Dollar Home it's a little pricy but worth every penny. And very comfortable to carry around a lot of gear with.

I have the Tamrac Pro 12. Its an amazing bag. I can put 2 1 series bodies in it, along with 4 lens and 2 flashes. I can carry alot of spare CF cards, batteries and the CPE3 for my flashes. I keep my reporters pad, pen, and all weather cover for my camera. It does tend to get heavy with all of that in it, so just keep that in mind.

Thank you all for the input! I'm going with the Tamrac Pro 12 - I really like Tamrac bags and it sounds like it will fit my needs best.

just wanted to add my 2 cents since you've decided.... why didn't you go with a Lowepro? The Lowepro Nova 5 AW is an awesome bag, has the room you need, you can get it on overstock.com for around $70 shipped. I love mine, best bag I have ever had. overstock link
