Ha Ha Ha.. see I told you!!

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
08/06/2008 09:20:10 PM · #5
That should work just fine on your camera, if you are shooting during the day. For night shots you might want to go with a 70-200mm 2.8. Doesn't have to be Canon, both Sigma and Tokina make very good tele-lenses.

My blond moment, you already said Sigma. Duh!!!

if you are looking online for the lens, run the website through resellerratings.com and check their rating. could save you some headaches.

Get the APO version if you can swing it. It's also relatively inexpensive and better quality.

APO version?
08/06/2008 09:50:29 PM · #13
I'd also recommend the APO version. The lens is a great value, but a bit soft about 200mm. The macro mode is fantastic and doesn't seem to be as soft at regular mode, even though macro is from 200-300mm.

Well, Amazon is just the store front. The real seller may be some sleazy place.

//www.reselleratings.com allows people who buy anything new or used to rate the website. Often times you can find unbelievable deals on things but if check their rating is like 1.2/10 and reviews of their bad business practices. Very helpful. BTW amazon.com got an 8.09/10 which is great. :)

Good point. The link above is for Amazon, but other sellers are on the right side.

Sometimes those ratings aren't entirely reliable either, but reselleratings is one of the better ones. Those sleazy places will bribe people for a positive review, but if positives are mixed in with horror stories, I'd still stay clear.

The lens is within dollars of the same price on bhphoto, I don't understand where any of this is coming from.

Good luck!
08/06/2008 10:01:11 PM · #21
so is that a legit price? is that what your saying?
08/06/2008 10:07:28 PM · #22
The price on Amazon (link I provided) is legit. Just make sure you click on the big "Add to shopping cart" button on upper right side to get it straight from Amazon. The smaller buttons are for other sellers.

which exact lens are you looking at.. the canon 70-200 2.8 or some crap sigma 4.8.5.6 if you go with the 4.5-5.6 good luck on a cloudy day shooting moving objects.. i mean yea you can crank the ISO but then you lose your image quality... just my .02 if i were you go with a sigma 70-200 2.8.. costly but you wont miss a beat as far as shooting

Well Jib.. in your words I guess I'm looking at some "crap Sigma 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DC"

I always love when someone makes a snooty kind of comment like that.. and it never fails, if you go back into portfolio's of those who are helpful and by helpful i even mean telling you no don't buy this, yet never snooty about it, their pictures always look professional and have such great creativity.. yet when you go into the profiles of someone who right off the bat is rude and refers to something your looking at.. mainly for shooting a 5yr old playing T-ball, you never see the great crative shots.. funny how that works..

yet no hard feeling Jib..
