H All,
I have just ordered my very first flash.........ever.....please dont laugh at this question.....
40D & 430EX II
Now......when i take my pic with flash - does the flash tell me what the aperture / shutter / iso should be - or is the camera intelligent enough to know what is sitting on it and can calculate it that way ?
many thanks
Tony |

430 or 580EX II?
ETA: sorry for the question. I didn't even know about the 430EX II.

| Does it have ETTL? if so it will read the camera settings and adjust the output of the flash. But I find it better to shot manually. It's hard at first but gets easier as you learn. I don't have a light meter so it a trial and error thing in M mode. |

Tony your flash has ETTL and will adjust the flash accordingly as mentioned by SDW
You may have already seen it but I suggest a read through //www.strobist.com as well. Also you can join us on the strobist group thread here:
//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=770633
Also read your manual. Also for more in depth reading check out this book: Digital Field Guide
I like shooting manual as well but it would probably be best if you start off in Auto.
