I found that most photos on here are really really great and never constitute less than a 5 on a realistic scale. However, there are some photos that are really terrible and then i vote less than 5.

Very happy with this start. Especially after what I scored in Lawn for the 'Better than Average' side challenge. Alas, I did not make the cut for this to count.

Oh well...

First two votes were 4.50, then overnight it rose to a decent 5.57. Then 10 votes later down to a 5.125

What sucks is one person said it was a really good photo, then implied that because the majority of the other entrants interpreted the challenge theme a different way and I didn't read their mind, then again, while a good photo, mine should be penalized.

I mean come on... it's a ONE WORD theme -- no details. It will be very hard to DNMC anything in this challenge. Unless you took a shot of the sun on the horizon, with a miltary clock show it was 6:49 AM and a compass pointing east, it would be very hard to totally rule out an interpretation.

Evening. "Evening" can mean balancing too. There is no requirement to assess this theme by it's sister theme "Morning". BTW, I didn't do a balancing shot, just pointing out that one word is all we had to work with.

I think people wanted clear night landscapes again.

Oh well. :)

Floating around in the mid 5's, which is a pleasant change for me after a string of mediocre entries.

That's NOT what the comment said, and it was one of your higher votes.

#1. Should you be peeking? Shame on you.
#2. That pretty much *IS* what it said, your lack of understanding aside.
#3. I didn't claim they voted it down, but used that as an example of what others appear to be thinking.

Thanks always, for butting in.

Where you misunderstand it seems is that he said that it was hard to compare my photo with the others... People can vote however they choose, but comparing photos is not really part of the voting. You look at the photo, ask yourself if it meets the challenge and then rate it 1-10. Some people here (and it's their right) think they are supposed to give a 10 to the best photo of the bunch, a 9 to #2, etc... But I think the majority here actually rate the photos. So there could be multiple 10s or there could be no 10s a given challenge.

So there is no element of comparing one photo to the next to assess how good a given photo is.

Again, that's what the comment DID in fact say.

I looked into your complaint and saw a compliment and high vote, your lack of understanding aside. We've had to contact people on occasion when they go "off the reservation" and start handing out bizarre comments (like DNMC in Free Studies), and that's the only reason I looked. You're welcome. :-/

I must have missed where posting a general observation to the forums constituted a "complaint" to the site council. I hope all infractions of this sort are logged so that SC members don't continually abuse their powers without at least have the rest of the SC see what they are doing.

Again, for shame.

You're forgiven.

Now back to the scores.

So many people comploain about how the SC sit on their asses and do nothing. Now, for once, a SC member has acted on what appeared to be a complaint and did what he thought was best as early as possible...and you are complaining about that. Sheez...if that is onoy problem you have, then you have nothing to worry about. Be appreciative that someone has tried to help you and let it go at that.

um.. i know everyone hates when people bring this up, but why do you only vote a 5 or higher? doesn't that mean every photo must be above average(on a voting scale)?

ok ok nevermind, i dont want to start a huge argument over voting styles. sorry i mentioned anyting

I actually think you have an interesting point (.....my ony critism is that you apologised for having an opinion). I think I probably vote similar, being that we can vote 1-10. I would like to see a govenor of some sort, that if you give a score less than five, you must register your comment first. Of course it probably would also help to have a guide to giving constructive critism for learning purposes, based on that I have received some interestingly worded comments on occasions. I have also received some well thought out and considered opinions, that have helped me gratly.

Maybe we should have an award for the most considerate and helpful commentor....it is a gift! I know I have some favourites....maybe it could be the Silver Tongue award. My favourite commentor is SandyP...not only a fabulous photographer, but also a brilliant commentor..... and there are many others also. Maybe we could start a new thread for the Silver Tongues, and every one nominates their favourite comment maker.

They do have the Yappie award for exactly that....don't worry girl....grab another glass of wine!!! LOL! But I agree with your suggestion...it would stop these troll voters without good reason for their low vote!
