There are so many lenses to choose from. And I'm having a impossible time deciding.
I would like to buy 2 lenses to suit 2 needs. Maximum $1500 per lens.
1) I want a good portrait lens.. if you could only take 1 lens to a wedding or portrait session what would it be?
2) I want a good landscape lens. The Sigma 10-20 has caught my eye and seems to be very nice lens for a good value. If you could choose only one to buy, what would it be?
I've read reviews and whatnot.. but they just review each lens and what's good/bad.. and they all have good/bad points. But I can't make a decision based on this, I would like to hear some of your experiences and choices.

For a wedding, I'd say a 17-50 f.28, but you should also have something longer like a 70-200 f2.8 on hand too. For a portrait session, either a fast 50mm prime or a fast 85mm prime.
Landscape?? Since I doubt you'd sell your Nikon and but Canon to get the Canon 10-22, the Sigma probably is your best bet. I like my Sigma 12-24. I bought it since it was the only lens anywhere near that wide. It's also the only UW lens that offers full frame coverage, that may be a consideration if you see such an upgrade in your future or are considering a film body.

Have to say, you'd be hard pressed to find a better lens than this one. It's awesome.

Nikons 14-24 F2.8 lens for wide. And then the 85 F1.4 for portraits. Combined prices gets you well below what you wanted to pay, and you will have two amazingly sharp and fast lens.

The big decisions you need to make is if you want a prime or zoom for the portrait lens. If you're good with prime, the Nikon 85mm F1.4 is probably the best there is for us Nikon shooters. If you're okay with zooms, I think the Nikon 17-55 is excellent and much more versatile.
For landscapes you're limited a bit more. I'd tend to go for the Sigma 10-20mm, but others would recommend the Nikon 12-24. Either will get you where you want to go, it's mainly a matter of preference.
The other options is to get the 50mm F1.4, the Sigma 10-20 and the Nikon 70-200. I think you'll still be under your budget but with a very versatile arsenal. I think that's probably what I'd do. |

Went to bed at 0600 (night shift worker) get up at 1500 and had an email they were available at B&H at 0900. Well....all gone again!! SO!! Bought one on Adorama (backordered) and see when I get that!!
